If you're wearing loose fitting sweatsuit and running shoes, then it's OK. But if you're wearing dress shirt and form fitting jeans or trousers, with jacket, then your movements will be certainly limited. And if you wear hard soled dress shoes, then how will you rise on your toes to execute proper kick? Your form fitting shirt and jacket will limit your elbow, and the padding will lessen the effectiveness of an elbow. BTW did you practice MT in your street clothes while shadow boxing or with a bag? Have you done same while sparring?
of course flexibility is great, and the more flexible you are the better. even still, you can use muay thai effectively without being flexible. throwing punches, elbows and low kicks dont require that much flexibility and can be extremely effective.

when i train at the gym i wear shorts and train barefoot. but when i work my heavy bag at home, im always wearing my street clothes and shoes because my bag is in the garage and the floor is dirty. ive done bagwork wearin my jeans and my worker pants. i will say though, that i always dress pretty casual. i wear simple vans shoes that allow me to move, and my pants always fit well enough to not hold me down or restrict me. i never wear dress shoes or things that will hold me down if i need to spring into action or escape a situation.

Back when I went to (a private catholic) highschool, I'd occassionally train in the school uniform...the worst part isn't limited mobility, it's when you throw a kick and the seam in the crotch tears open, and since I like to go commando most of the time, reveals your junk to everyone in the proximity...and maybe more, depending on if you have a change of clothes or if you don't notice.

      • Guys, you discuss wether it's practical to use Muy Thai or any other art in normal every day wear as if you live in a war zone and you have to fight at every corner of the street!

Where do you guys live that you have to be so concerned about how to dress to be able to fight effectively?

Anyways, depending on how you are dressed you will have to adjust your fighting in case you have to defend yourself in the street, even if you are wearing a suit you will still be able to give effective low kicks (which work brilliantly in street fights), you can still box, use your elbows, give buttheads, clinch and use your knees... but hey, I only had two fights in the last ten years, many others were avoided diplomatically, never wanted to have my hands broken or end up in jail.

Not if you're dressed like Eddie Izard or in tight stretch jeans.

No indeed! Well if you think you might have to fight in every corner of every street you might just wear a fatigue and carry an M4 PERMANENTLY!

Too clunky, besides it won't fit on my purse... it'll just draw extra attention when I'm walkin' state.

Then some very baggy pants "MC Hammer" style... those too will draw some attention but at least you can kick...
