  • Anyone here do MuayThai or Pankration ?

I do Pankration and love the fact that it combines MuayThai with submission wrestling.

I like the fact that you learn to do basically anything from jabs, right cross, hooks(to body or head),upper cuts, shin kicks, knees, elbows, clinching, takedowns, sweeps, arm bars, knee locks, ankle locks, wrist locks, neck cranks,to chokes and much more.

I'm best at fighting MuayThai though.

Anyone here do MuayThai or Pankration?

If so what do you like about your style ?

May sound stupid I know but believe it or not there are alot of people, who come to this forum from what have I seen in other threads, who have never done MuayThai.

So in other words you have done Pankration, because Pankration is just Muay Thai combined with Grappling (whether it be submission wrestling, jujitsu, judo, etc.) .

WTF is Pankration? I don't do MMA bro. I just go to a BJJ gym and a MT gym. It's not like i want to be some kind of "MMA fighter"... Ya know.. It's hard to explain. I like BJJ for one reason and MT for another.

Sorry my mistake,I thought you meant you learnt MuayThai and BJJ together, I didn't realize you take them individually and at different schools.

So, I take Muay Thai an BJJ at the same school, Kinda like Jules said, I like both for different reasons...

I was under the impression that Pankration was a Greek grappling art of some sort...?

                      Google comes through again!

The word Pankration is a Greek word which translated means "all powers" or "all powerful", both are acceptable translations by Greek scholars. Pankration was a sporting event in the ancient Greek Olympic games that was first introduced in the games of 648 BC. The rules of the sport were simple, no biting or eye gouging and victory was secured through knockout, submission or death. The historical records of the early pankration are shrouded and mixed with Greek mythology

                      Modern Day Pankration

The current wave of "no holds barred" and pay per view fighting events has brought with it a curiosity and interest to it's ancient predecessor Pankration. Just as the boxing venue grew and evolved from ancient Greece to Madison square garden and the rest of the world, the skills, techniques, training methods, rules, attire and safety measures have also evolved. For the most part this evolution has been beneficial to the sport and it's participants. Now after centuries ancient Greek Pankration is getting the opportunity to become Modern Pankrationin the same way as it's brother boxing did.

So, tell us about it from the first person then M.T.F - How is it different than 'MMA'? I mean, is it taught as a single art like for instance B.J.J., or is it taught as an agglomeration like Jeet Kune Do?

Also, are you impressed with my use of cool words like 'agglomeration'?

Quite impressive indeed, you know the history of Pankration very well. It is a greek art, however these days it doesn't matter what kind of grappling you mix with MuayThai in order for it to be Pankration. It doesn't have to be submission wrestling since most grappling arts are very similar anyways.

Yes I am impressed with your words like agglomeration.

Pankration involves two different arts(grappling and muay thai) combined and taught as one art.I don't know much about Jeet Kune Do but it is probably similar.

You are right there is no difference between most M.M.A arts.
After all Pankration is a mixed martial arts but like the others in UFC,Pride,Sabaki Challenge etc.are the closest you will get to a real fight.

They aren't styles like karate, tae kwon do,kung fu etc.

If you mixed one of these with grappling it would not be known as Pankration, because Pankration is based on realistic ring fights as well as street-defense and katas are not practiced, besides for the stand up part of Pankration it is always MuayThai.

Pankration and Shooto Fighting are the same art but from different places.

Yes Pankration is a greek art but one that combines MuayThai and Submission Wrestling, however with modern Pankration any grappling art can be combined with Muay Thai since most grappling arts are similar.

Jujitsu and submission wrestling are very similar if not same, however jujitsu people wear a uniform we don't.

What makes you think he is immortal. Thai is just as human as you are. I on the other hand am the true immortal fighter.
