I think it was just the case that i thought my toe wasn't too important. I was working on my low kicks anyway, kicking with my shi, but if i gt my distance wrong, or my opponent steps back in time i end up snapping it sideways. Whereas normally this would be no problem, because it was broken and not fully healed it hurts like hell. It's happened so often that i think psyologically i am getting sick of it and pulling out of kicks. I get the hint though. Take a break from sparring. I love sparring and it was the highlight of my week, and i think for tha reason i was always adverse to, but long term i think i have to. And with no injuries and hopefully time spent on bettering my technique the confidence will come flooding back.

i'm new at the martial arts side of things, but have had a very similar situation in surfing....almost died, but still went out straight afterwards...big mistake. screwed me up for almost a year. take a break, get your strength and start off slow, not as you were before your injury. build yourself up again, promise you'll get there.

I don't want to side track the forum here, but I have to ask: How did you almost die of a broken toe? Statements like that need explaining. Like for example, I can't just tell you my brother got nearly 3rd degree burns from icecream and leave it at that.

When you go back into sparring, don't aggravate the injury. I'm nursing a right foot inury back to health myself. I don't throw hard right leg kicks with it anymore. Teeps most of the time, a midsection roundhouse if I feel confident it'll sneak right through.

A recovering injury is a great opportunity to try something NEW. Usually you injure your tool of choice, meaning you've been neglecting the others. So work on those in the meantime.
