You see, I'm working in a jail, big difference between jail and prison. we hold mostly state and local law offenders, with a very small number of federal inmates. the showers are open and viewable to the officers and we have several checks in place to prevent those problems of the past. you really shouldn't be so negative, it's not realistic. Things are a lot more different than in the good old days when police brutality wasn't questioned. Though the prisoners still have their own justice for pedophiles and other such sick f-cks regrettably the cameras see all.

What credentials should I ask for? I may be tired of hearing it, but that's because it's all I hear. I'm sure a style learned by those outside the walls is just as learned by those inside. I'm still willing to learn, but what else is there?

Dude, you need to stay in that job for the shortest time possible. Apply to become a PPO as soon as you can!

I'm planning on staying with this but applying to join the SRT team. I will apply for a job outside the jail when I turn 21.

I often think of those myself, Being pepper sprayed and beaten with my own club features prominently. But as long as I keep my wits about me I should be ok. I'm mostly sitting in a booth watching them anyway.

If this doesn't seem to be working out I plan on Entering the Marines as an MP (I consider the CO work training for this). Yes I have worked out the pro's and con's and there's nothing else that interests me. I know I'm not college bound (not gonna bs myself about that) and this seems the best option right now. more money than flipping burgers and a better chance for advancement than digging ditches. plus I am free to use whatever language I feel is appropriate and will be given opportunities to release my more sadistic side. on the con side (no pun intended) I run the risk of being injured, it will be dificult to find life/health insurance other than what the Jail offers, and relationships will be stressful.

Once you've earned a little and get some more experience, you should think about law school or going into business.

You forgot something on the ''con'' side. You will always have to look over your shoulder in your everyday life in fear of running into an ex-con that will recognise you. Maybe even an ex-con that you (and I quote) ''released your more sadistic side on''. You will always live in fear of having your wife/kids kidnaped, raped, hurt and/or killed by ex-cons. you will receive threats from people that knows where you live, where your kids go to school, at what time your wife leaves home in the morning... No martial arts will help you there!

This is no joke, kid. Maybe you think this job will make you look cool and tough, but please don't take this lightly.

I do not take this job lightly, nor have I ever looked at it as being cool; I view it merely as a career and a wayt o advance myself and any future opportun. I did not mean beating a helpless prisoner, I meant when they fight back and I use adequate force as defined in our guidebook. We do our best to have a healthy relationship with the prisoners, as well as our close proximity to them helps to prevent those things you said, though they are still quite real threats. Furthermore, as I mentioned this is a jail, not a prison, we deal with different types of criminals with our few federal inmates being segregated from the rest and treated differently.

Measures can, be taken, will be taken, and are already in place to prevent those things. Will I delude myself into thinking they're impossible, of course not, that thinking makes them more likely; I'm just saying they're not likely.

i have worked on an acute adult/ forensic ward as a mental health tech. take some advice they will give you training..go through the training and listen to your supervisors and coworkers see what they are suplimenting their training with. i would sudgest that you spend the time working out lots of old fashioned pt. because i know you will be tested on this and your coworkers will appriciate the fact that you came in shape. they will train you from there. also you will rarely go it alone. especialy at first the other officers are a team and you are joining them act accordingly.
