You know what the really funny thing about threads like this is? If you go through all the arguments and rebuttals and insults... 90% of what the posters are arguing about is semantics within the posts.
Read the posts here... One guy types up a couple paragraphs, another guy takes exception to one participle and counter posts to it - and as you read the counter you can see him getting more and more worked up until by the end of his post he is almost screaming. SO then the first guy responds to the last five words of the post and on it goes.
Whats really been said in this entire thread?
1) Stand up is safer than grappling in a street fight.
2) Grappling happens, so a person probably should have an idea how to deal with it.
3) weapons are better than empty hands in a street fight.
4) empty hands happens, so a person should know how to fight without a weapon.
5) hOmoplata is an idiot.
That's it folks. Outside of some pretty funny insults and maybe a snippet here and there, that is the entire content of this thread and everybody agrees 90% on all those points. The only things ya'll are arguing about is how to type those five things up in one hundred words or more.
I can't believe that you're actually still around talking about things you haven't done or practiced. This isn't even judgemental. Its stating the facts that you yourself support. I won't waste more time by having entertaining your off topic posts. It takes away from the thread, which was probably your intention all along.
actually, i have practiced self defense everyday since i started training. as i said, keeping away from trouble has kept me safe so far, so i must be doing something right. the whole point of martial arts to me was to keep me safe, and ive done a good job so far. so fu.
your idea of sd is street fighting, ego driven bullshit that can easily be avoided. you boast about being better because you have been in altercations(which you most likely havent) as if thats something to be proud of, showing how little you know about self defense.
The quick way to address jubaji, emptyness and hempy is simple ... Why don't go guys start a thread about ANYTHING about martial arts and see how many people respond. I'm not talking about asking a question about people's opinions or starting a poll to see what forum members think. I'm talking about writing something comprehensive about martial arts as it pertains to your own training.
I doubt any of you will, because its obvious that none of you can. Since posting here, I notice that its always the guys who don't know shit who are always questioning other people's credentials. I could care less as I'm not here to prove anything to anyone, especially internet ninjas who talk shit from the shadows. But let's just make it clear right now: There are 2 kinds of posters. Those who have something to say that makes sense to those who also train. And those who lurk around waiting for opportunities to talk shit because they lack any real training that would allow them to reply with any insight.
So if you want to challenge the validity of anti-grappling, why don't you use some of your own experience and training to demonstrate why anti grappling isn't an excellent concept and practice. Show the forum what you know, and what everybody else doesn't. Put it into words.
As you can see, the majority of the posts here on this topic have to do with the subject matter at hand. Nearly everyone who posted here was talking about anti-grappling, but a few of you have weeded out yourselves and stick out like a fat guy at the ball game who talks shit to the players from the stands where its safe. Running your mouth but you ain't saying shit.
And as its been pointed out, you don't have to pay for anti grappling to practice it's concepts and techniques. So don't bother with the marketing ploy bullshit. Find a legitimate reason, if you can. But I suspect I'll just get more woof tickets and chest beating from you so-called well rounded puss!es.

Its not a matter of its 'excellence', the point is that it doesn't exist! Its a cute little catchphrase that charlatans have cooked up to sell (yes, sell. it is a marketing ploy whether you want to admit it or not) non-grapplers on the idea that they can close a gaping hole in their skills without actually gaining the requisite skills!
I've asked this before on this very thread: is counter-punching "anti-punching?" can you learn to counter-punch without learning to punch, no matter what cute name you want to give it?
Its an empty concept. There is no 'anti-grappling', there is just grappling. If you want to have a reasonable expectation of being able to handle yourself in a grappling situation you have to learn how to grapple. If you learn it half-assed because of some cute catchphrase on a t-shirt you have only yourself to blame when the inevitable occurs.
