  • A decent combination?/Ninjado?

I've been taking Tae Kwon Do on and off for the last seven years. I think it is a great art to act as a base.

I've always messed around with other arts on my way (such as Zui Quan and Muay Thai), but I never really got serious enough with those arts to actually consider myself to be trained in them. I just used techniques from them on occasions when I would spar.

Recently I've started some training in Capoeira. I have been slacking lately, but I just finished another term of college. I think I can focus more on it in 2007.

I am hoping to become decent at Capoeira, but I am not hoping to be a mestre anytime soon.

After I reach a skill level that I think is acceptable in Capoeira, I plan on starting Jeet Kune Do. I've heard some good things about it from my brother, and I think it would aid me in street situations.

I don't know what I will take after Jeet Kune Do, but I think that will be the last Martial Art I will train in. I am considering something like MMA or Muay Thai, but I don't know yet.

    Tae Kwon Do
    Capoeira
    Jeet Kune Do
BJJ, Muay Thai, or MMA (maybe)

I know the ability to defend oneself well in street situations depends on many aspects (such as skill and experience), but do you think this combination is enough for an "average" fighter such as myself? Right now I am 5'11", and I weigh about 150 pounds. Most of my weight is in my legs (Which is why some of my kicks aren't bad), but my build is a mix of many things. College got in the way this year for me to try and put on muscle, but I think with my new schedule I can change that.

    Any feeback is appreciated.

As for the second part: Can someone give me some information about Ninjado?

Don't worry about what we think.

If you want to train in those arts you listed then great! It's sounds to me you want to be more of a Martial Artist then a Self Defense practitioner, but there's nothing wrong with that. If you really want to train in those arts to make it SD worthy I'm sure you have the brains to apply Bruce Lee's Concepts to those arts to make it work for you.

And about Ninjado. You have the power to Google and Youtube. I'm pretty sure you can study what's out there and come to a conclusion if its worth your time.

    Have fun training.

I know I'm not skilled enough to teach, but it's always been an idea I've thought of when I become middle-aged. I'm more focused on self defense right now.

        lol.

MMA is a sport...it is an umbrella term...it is not a system, nor a style...it is a sport.

It's a combat sport with the ability to teach one how to defend themself. Is it not?

MMA is the name of a particular type of combat sport. To the best of my (limited) knowledge, it is not a "style" in itself.

I think I might just do Muay Thai and Jujutsu in the end. I'm pretty quick, but I am really light on my feet. Right now I'm still practicing Tae Kwon Do and a little Capoeira.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Sorry if I got a little confused.

If you know that you will just be doing Muay Thai and Jujutsu in the end why not start now. It seems to me that you are talking about wasting alot of time and money(Not just yours but your instructors as well) on styles and arts that are unecessary toward your end goal.

I mean seriously WTF? Just go down and join your local MMA center.

I don't have access to Muay Thai at the moment. What I wrote also isn't written in stone. I hope to do all of these arts to be prepared for the streets. I don't consider any one art to be better than another. They all have their advantages and disadvantages.

I live in NW Florida in a town 20 miles from Pensacola. I know there are many Jujutsu places, but I'm pretty sure there are no Muay Thai places.

Well here's acouple of links for you.
http://www.pensacolaboxingacademy.co...=10&Category=9 (I read on another forum that they have MMA training there also but it's by invitation only)

Here's another link with a listing of various mma training centers in florida. I don't know that state verywell, but I figured you'd know what was close to you. http://www.fightresource.com/viewsch...&go=1&state=FL

I just found this link http://www.tomasomartialarts.com/ It's just north of florida in Fairhope, Alabama. Judging by what you stated you're looking for I think this place has it.

The PBA is the only one that is close. I'll look into the other schools as soon as I graduate (and if I've made any progress in JKD).
