Didn't Alex Gong get shot chasing a guy who stole a car?
Super heroes are for comic books.
Yes if he grabbed a kid and ran chase his ass, otherwise it's just stuff.

Lee Murray got stabbed. Alex Gong got shot and Tito Ortiz got beat to unconsciousness. All because they're so used to being effective fighting under the rules that they train under. People don't realize just how different the elements are once you hit the pavement.
Sport athletes are so adamant about telling people that there's no difference, but the approach alone got those 3 laid out. That should serve as a lesson. Its not all about kicking and punching. Its about common sense and knowing beforehand what's worth dying for and what's worth letting go.
In the case of Lee Murray and Tito Ortiz, they felt the need to have to uphold the "tough guy" image and got the business. Alex Gong forgot that thugs who carry weapons exist in the world and got shot over something insured.

Problem with Uke's logic is he isn't naming all the times MMA guys have been SUCCESSFUL in real confrontations. (I've never heard of the Ortiz incident, do you have a link?) Remember Uke, as I've stated and you've agreed, being slammed into pavement isn't a good thing for the slamee... and who better to slam someone than an MMA/grappler?

Anyone who has any experience in any combat jujitsu understands that there is no effortless self defense, and therefore you have to earn every throw, lock or break you going to use. You have to first shock your opponent, then soften him up to prevent resistance, control his focus and keep him from reaching for a weapon. With wrestling or BJJ, you're going to immediately go to close the distance, and if that fails, you're going to brawl with sub-par CQ skills that you don't train in.
There's nothing flawed about that logic. Those three examples are perfect for illustrating that a sports mindset and bad ring habits will lead people including J-Luck to believe that they can use their sport training in settings where it'll get them killed.
Alex Gong chased a car while he was unarmed and got shot point blank. Stupid move that a lot of us might make unless we've had it drilled in our head that criminals are cowards that can't fight and therefore MUST carry weapons to equalize that fact. Wrestling and BJJ ain't teaching you that.
Tito threw a punch and rushed in and got pounded for thinking that you can rush into grappling with no consequences, Had it been a knife instead of fists, he would have been dead.
Lee Murray thinks he's a badass as it is. But he found out that fists vs the blade lands you bleeding all over the place looking to die.
None of those guys used awareness, common sense or respect for the fact that the street is not a ring. Anyone for any reason can jump in, use a weapon, or call attention to you situation.
Its sounds good to be able to thai/kick/western box or wrestle in the street, but unless you can end your conflict fast, its pointless. The entire point of combatives is learning how to use effective methods to quickly end a conflict. On your feet is the best place to utilize your tools to that end. Striking to control focus and break the balance. These are not my opinions. This is simple combatives 101, and those who argue against it just show that they haven't been educated in even the fundamentals.
The fact that top NHB and thaiboxers like Ortiz, Murray and Gong ran into situations where they didn't even consider weapons or several opponents shows that the sports mentality will program even the best MMA fighters to disregard even basic RBSD maxims and use the "MMA toughness" we've been reading about lately.

This site is FULL of dumbassed MMA SD ideas just READ some of the suggestions, for dealing with weapons!!
It reads like a Forest Gump on Self Defense seminar, where did they get those ideas? From treating SD like its a game of uncle.
