No, I wasn't there but I decided a long time ago I'd give my life if necessary to protect my students. If you want to make a decision to hide under a desk while watching those around you go down, that's fine. It's you're choice. Free will and all that.

OK , IF YOU HAVE NEVER CONSIDERED SELF DEFENSE TRAINING....HERES A REALLY GOOD EXCUSE..... I HAVE TOLD MY FAMILY, FRIENDS AND TRAINING PARTNERS ABOUT THIS KIND OF CRAP HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY...AN NOW IT IS IN THE HEADLINES......."All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." (Edmund Burke).....ABSOLUTE TRUTH

        exactly.

so you can say that you would do this and you would do that, but the fact is you werent there so show the students some respect. and no, you most likely wouldnt have done anything to help any of those students so dont disrespect them by trying to judge them and blame them.

You're the only one here who has said you would hide under a desk. The first step is to think about the situation and decide if you're going to be a victim or if you're going to take decisive action. Based on your posts I think I know what you'd have done.

its not being defeatist, its just reality. you guys seem to imply you could have done better in that situation or that the students are to blame for not being able to stop the gunman who btw took his own life. he wasnt even stopped by police or security, he ended the rampage when he chose to.

What if there had been someone who also had a firearm? How might that have changed the scenario?

No, you just said there's nothing anyone could have done. Not if you think like that there isn't.

it would have increased the chances of stopping the rampaging gunman, thats for sure.

A gun would help but even without a gun you just need a guy to pick up the fucking table and rush him and another guy to go around the side and slam him with a chair. Or SOMETHING. I'm sure once they started other people would be more likely to help.

looks like i was right, considering the gunman wasnt stopped until he chose to take his own life.

That doesn't mean there was nothing that could have been done. It just means people didn't do the right things.

What the hell are people training for, anyway? That's what I want to know.

                            It's tragic.

See quite a few 'survivalists were jumping out of windows 25 feet up, with one breaking his leg.

LOL. you really think that when someone has just opened fire on you with a gun that you have the kind of time and clarity of mind to simply go over to a table or chair, pick it up, then go all the way over to the attacker and then try to hit him with it? are you kidding? dude, you watch way too many movies. what you see in hollywood movies is not the same as in real life.

i heard one of the dead professors was a military man. im sure he would have stopped the gunman if he could have.

Yes, people HAVE had the tme and clarity of mind to fight back against attackers EVEN AFTER they've been shot.

I'd rather get killed protecting other people than get killed hiding underneath a desk.
