Jubs, KOTF has a valid point. There are people who are experts in fields that they may not have operational experience (although it helps to have some).
Sure, but real 'experts' don't misrepresent themselves.

I'm glad you've proclaimed me an expert jubs, I don't remember claiming it myself. Nor will I now.

              LMAO!!!

So let me get this straight:

You think that people argue, then back up, then produce knives with flowery flourishes, and THEN the fight begins????

              Have you learned nothing???

People who use knives to attack are usually people who wish to kill, rob or rape you. They don't want a struggle. They don't want a fight. They want you to bleed and the best way to accomplish that with a knife is to mask their intentions until they are already upon you. By the time you realize a mugger/thug has pulled out a knife you're getting cut.

That or the man with the knife NEVER had any intention on using the knife for anything other than intimidation. Its always funny to read about a woman beating up a mugger while he's holding a blade. Its like robbing a store with an unloaded pistol. That ain't the scenario you should be worrying about.

What you sound like you want to examine is a revival of West Side Story where they toss their knives from hand to hand while posturing and prancing around to dramatic music.

ROFL@ "once the knives come out".

Hey now, watch it you're using too much common sense, and displaying too good a grasp on reality.

I agree with this........people that pull out knives and waive it in front of you usually don't intend to use it....they are trying to intimidate you or scare you. Just like a fool that pulls out a gun to scare you....he runs his mouth but does not shoot you with it.

If someone is going to stab you they are going to do it when you are not looking. They usually do the grab and stab method which is the way they do it in prisons across the country.

Most of the assaults with a knife or gun that I had to investigate where surprised attacks...the victim never saw it coming. If I was going to stab someone I would do it when they are not looking....I would pull it out and let him know my intentions.....shit he might have a gun for all I know. This is the same way most people think.

You have to be ready at all times and never let someone get close to you if you can avoid it.

I have seen a man armed with a knife deploy and then throw it down to challenge another man who was unarmed. I've seen duels with knives and I've seen some blood. Some of it my own. The thing that separates lethal from harmful is mostly INTENT. And having a decent trauma unit nearby.

Wish those pictures were still up... Wounds are always nasty but better to see them here than (suffer) feel them on your own body.

Be careful, if your actual experiences don't match the predetermined 'rules' some people insist upon then they couldn't have happened.

According to some people here if you don't feel them yourself you can't possibly know what you are talking about.

Also and correct me if I'm wrong Uke, but what I see is someone telling you to train under the assumption that your attacker will be more skilled than you.

If you train to fight knuckled headed dip shits and you come across a pro then you will get your ass handed to you.

If you train to fight pros then knuckled headed dip shits shouldn't be a problem.

Then you should be all set if you run afoul of people named KOTF, BoringSpear, pUke, and the like.

So basically Tant, you're just saying you've seen shit happen.

We all know that shit happens.

In fact, any non-sport MA practitioner trains for shit happening.

However that doesn't make DUMB SHIT any better of a choice.

Saying you've seen a guy throw down his knife and challenge another guy to a fist fight makes a point, but I would liken that to the time Indiana Jones was confronted by a man who was swinging swords and simply shot his ass. That would make my point.

Anything is possible. From Mike Brewer executing rolling leg locks in a dark parking lot of a bar/nightclub ... to Jubaji suplexing a guy who had already produced a knife and closed the distance. Sure, anything could work.

But would you try just any ole thing is the question????

Would you try Dillman's KO touches against a man trying to cut you?

Would you shoot in on a mugger who has already produced a blade AND already cut you(which proves intent) for a takedown?

                                I doubt it.

Just because some asshole wins $10,000 for every round he survives of Russian Roulette and he's up $30,000 doesn't mean that I'm going to consider playing to get fast cash because I see him winning ... for now. If someone likes those odds, then maybe wrestling knives or boxing bullets is for them!

There's no such thing as a sure thing. We all agree on that. However that doesn't mean that some methods of getting shit done are safer and smarter than others.
