I don't have a problem with people training because they want to be able to take care of themselves, but you do make a point. A lot of people are extremely insecure, and feel threatened by the people around them to the point of paranoia. I agree that a lot of so-called "self-defense" systems and programs take advantage of that insecurity. By treating the people around them as physical threats the practitioners can avoid dealing with them socially, which they don't have the self-confidence to do. I'll offer up they way TTEscrima barely read your post before he started insulting you as empirical evidance. He's too insecure to have a conversation with someone who sees thing differently so he won't even bother to read what you wrote before he starts bashing you.

It's obvious that you have thoroughly researched all the angles of this subject.

I am confident that you also researched all the legal issues involved with your proclamation on pepper spray.

So I am sure there is no chance to get past the airtight argument you have prepared.

God damn you should write soap operas. You just make shit up as you go along, without any regard for actual reality.

Buying pepper spray at the hardware store down the street. $10.

Some one attacks you, you point and spray. Priceless.

Seriously, would some one here make a productive arguement for self defense training? Or are you guys too "real"?

How often do you guys get mugged anyway?

What a riot.... Self Defense is a LEAGAL term to JUSTIFY the use of force. Being "REASONABLE" is determined by a JURY of your so called PEERS.

              Get a grip gentlemen. LMAO

I think I might like this new guy. And by the way... WELCOME to our forum "kid"

I've read some of Escrimas threads, and he is pretty much the kind of person I am talking about. The four-page posts on which arteries to cut in a knife fight, why sparring is detrimental to his "street fights", etc. I don't know him, or where he's from, but I don't think any one who posts often on martial arts forums are as deadly as they would like us to believe.

I've seen the paranoia marketing scheme first hand recently, and it really made the experience not enjoyable. Despite what some would have you believe, fighting should be fun. You know, unless you're scared.

" I'd rather be judged by twelve than carried by six."

I read that in a fortune cookie.

Lots of folks SAY that... few realize the implications of judgment. ESP if your state enforces a death penalty.

                    Keep "it" real...

we're talking about pepper spray brah...

anyhoo, it's the same old hypothetical scenarios that keep the self-defense business in business.

Here's a scenario for you, high blood pressure. So what do you do? Work out, have fun with your friends. At the dojo if you want, doesn't matter. Because the likelyhood of a heart attack is greater than the chance of you getting killed in a street fight. Unless, as I have pointed out before, you are an asshole. 'Scuse the french.

Pfffft the reality of the situation and facts involved are useless to Sag Lou as long as he gets to smart off about me he doesn't care whats going on.

Just like he doesn't let the fact that he doesn't practice any martial arts prevent him from telling everyone else what to practice...so long as he gets to be cheerleader for MMA he's happy.

Wow you have so much experience in this field I can tell.

You need reasons why training to improve yourself is more beneficial than a gadget?

Sorry skippy but NO gadgets function as SD without an investment from you other than cash.

The fact that pepper spray is pretty much a joke (and illegal) many places is another reason.

Has Mike Brewer returned or did Sag Lou get a new screename because those are the only two people this uniformed and opinionated on SD....even Jubs knows a suplex will keep his pencils in line better than pepper spray.

Do you get the death penalty for self defense these days?

I've never heard of that, I have of heard of the death penalty when you tuck up under the desk and wait your turn to be shot though.

Yup, pepper spray is pretty much useless. I knew you could do it! You made a point! Now, I agree martial arts training does also improve yourself (although more importantly health-wise than for "real combat"). But what of the countless hours you've spent studying the human body for pressure points, arteries, and tendons? And not to mention the stress of the endless scenarios played out in your head (gotta be MURDER on the hair line!)?

I ask, how many times have you been mugged?

Boy, if I had a dollar for every time I got shot while hiding under a desk oh man...
