It's obvious that you have thoroughly researched all the angles of this subject.
I am confident that you also researched all the legal issues involved with your proclamation on pepper spray.
So I am sure there is no chance to get past the airtight argument you have prepared.

A lot of people are extremely insecure, and feel threatened by the people around them to the point of paranoia. I agree that a lot of so-called "self-defense" systems and programs take advantage of that insecurity. By treating the people around them as physical threats the practitioners can avoid dealing with them socially, which they don't have the self-confidence to do. I'll offer up they way TTEscrima barely read your post before he started insulting you. He's too insecure to have a conversation with someone who sees thing differently so he won't even bother to read what you wrote before he starts bashing you.

Some one attacks you, you point and spray. Priceless.
Seriously, would some one here make a productive arguement for self defense training? Or are you guys too "real"?
How often do you guys get mugged anyway?

What a riot.... Self Defense is a LEAGAL term to JUSTIFY the use of force. Being "REASONABLE" is determined by a JURY of your so called PEERS.
Get a grip gentlemen. LMAO
I think I might like this new guy. And by the way... WELCOME to our forum "kid"

I've seen the paranoia marketing scheme first hand recently, and it really made the experience not enjoyable. Despite what some would have you believe, fighting should be fun. You know, unless you're scared.

anyhoo, it's the same old hypothetical scenarios that keep the self-defense business in business.
Here's a scenario for you, high blood pressure. So what do you do? Work out, have fun with your friends. At the dojo if you want, doesn't matter. Because the likelyhood of a heart attack is greater than the chance of you getting killed in a street fight. Unless, as I have pointed out before, you are an asshole. 'Scuse the french.

Pfffft the reality of the situation and facts involved are useless to Sag Lou as long as he gets to smart off about me he doesn't care whats going on.
Just like he doesn't let the fact that he doesn't practice any martial arts prevent him from telling everyone else what to practice...so long as he gets to be cheerleader for MMA he's happy.

Wow you have so much experience in this field I can tell.
You need reasons why training to improve yourself is more beneficial than a gadget?
Sorry skippy but NO gadgets function as SD without an investment from you other than cash.
The fact that pepper spray is pretty much a joke (and illegal) many places is another reason.
Has Mike Brewer returned or did Sag Lou get a new screename because those are the only two people this uniformed and opinionated on SD....even Jubs knows a suplex will keep his pencils in line better than pepper spray.

I've never heard of that, I have of heard of the death penalty when you tuck up under the desk and wait your turn to be shot though.

I ask, how many times have you been mugged?
