The greatest real advantage is an apparent disadvantage. "The hard and strong will fall. The soft and weak will overcome." ~Tao Te Ching~ "You mean you'll put down your rock, and I'll put down my sword and we'll try and kill each other like civilized people?" ~Princess Bride~
Ever since you women've gotten the right to vote our country has gone down hill, you're the ones that elected clinton because he cried. jk
Hi H2H.
That's exactly my point. It was the female vote that put Clinton over the top in both elections. If only the male vote had been counted (as it should have been) then the Republicans would have won both elections and the Chinese wouldn't have had clearance to get at so many of our military secrets. It's like I said before, our founding fathers tried to protect us from this wishy-washy political paralysis by denying women voting rights. Also, I'm sure that it's the female voice that's largely responsible for sapping our resolve right now in our occupation in Iraq.
BTW, Brigadier General Janet Karpinsky sure did one hell of job screwing up that prison abuse situation and she's already been relieved of her duties. For more details check out http://www.globalsecurity.org . But that's typical of the stupidity that we've been hearing about concerning our women in uniform. If they're not getting pregnant then they're either involved in a scandal or else they're screrwing up in command positions. God help us if we ever go war against a real enemy!
Egalitarianism is just a code word for the feminization of men in a society. The only way that egalitarianism can ever truly exist is by cutting men down and propping women up. If our nation continues on it's present course then the best that we can ever hope to leave future generations is a mess like Sweden where most people are broke, most men are powerless to support a family, where most children are born out of wedlock, and where palimony is the norm and not the exception. Add in a top tax rate of 104% and you have a brave new world of castrated men and spoiled bitchy women. It's an ugly picture as far as I'm concerned, and all this egalitarianism will do nothing to stop sexism in either the work place or in the dojo.
The choice is ours. It's either we go back to the Father Knows Best lifestyle and start living like responsible men and women or else we can continue to destroy the fabric and the spirit of our nation in pursuit of the selfish and childish egalitarian utopia which can never exist and prosper any more than communism could. We're the first generation that seems destined to leave our grandchildren with a worse standard of living than our grandparents left for us. History will judge our moral cowardice accordingly!
A person who is said to be proficient in the arts is like a fool. Because of his foolishness in concerning himself with just one thing, he thinks of nothing else and thus becomes proficient. - Hagarkure
You have serious issues dude. I suggest you keep smoking alcohol it may bring you back to normal
Hi IPON,
You're right. I do have some serious issues watching the systematic destruction of our economy, our society, our institutions and the family unit. It's sad to see that so many guys like yourself are so brainwashed by political correctness that you refuse to see the problems caused by egalitarianism based on gender. Suit yourself........

BTW, I didn't know that alcohol could be smoked?
Take care,
Mr. Niceguy
Not sure, but I think ethanol has a lower boiling point and higher vapor pressure than water ~ 152 Farenheit vs. 212 Farenheit.
Technically speaking, the heated ethanol vapors could be smoked...lol
This is a quote from 32 year old Cary Williams-Nunez, one of only three certified female level IV Olympic boxing coaches in the US.
"Watching men fight is like watching a chess match. I prefer to watch women’s boxing: They just bang each other. Women fighters don’t know how to move their heads or anything.”

Can you link the quote?
I've trained with some females that know how to slip, duck and can hit hard. Some that are feminine and good looking!
Most women though are turned off by contact martial arts in general and especially sports like boxing/kickboxing, that's why you're gonna see most women start off with little to no natural talent, little coordination and power.
Ok, you've made your point and are entitled to your opinion. Will this thread ever go anywhere??
WARNING: the following is based on minimal research and no formal training whatsoever!
Reading through some threads on this forum, I notice a lot of them are about how women are weaker, women are smaller, women can't take as much damage, women don't have the mindset to inflict injury on their attacker (please excuse me as I break down laughing), and mind-boggling extremes such as if a 7' tall 500lb man attacked the average woman she'd be SOL (uhuh, and the average man wouldn't be?). It's true, the majority of women in the world are brought up to be docile, and aren't exposed to the rough play and physically abusive bullies that conditions men to endure pain and trains reflexes. Both genders are also force-fed stereotypes about how strong and tough males are, and how weak and fragile women are (or, at least, should be).
But I think the reality is rather different. We're all the same species, we're all human; men are a lot weaker and more fragile than the movies (or our society) makes them out to be, and women are a lot stronger and tougher than the movies (or our society) makes them out to be. There is a gap, but given the proper mindset, physical conditioning, and training, the playing field is more equal than it seems. As some people have pointed out in various threads, fighting a female is comparative to fighting a lightweight male - they don't stand still, and use moves as well as the next person.
The only real difference is, society programs us to view males and females differently. Therefore, an interesting paradox emerges in the case of a female against a random male attacker: the male's greatest disadvantage is underestimating the female, and the female's greatest disadvantage is overestimating the male and underestimating herself. The taller somebody is than you, the more exposed their throat (and other sensitive areas) is - particularly if they aren't expecting a fight. Also, as many have pointed out, typical hostile male-on-female attacks occur in close quarters - unguarded close quarters, since you can't undress somebody and hold them down at the same time, which makes the males prime targets for various grappling techniques and throws.
But enough about the ugly stuff. I honestly don't see being "smaller" or "weaker" as fatal disadvantages for either females or males. Being "big and strong" are qualitites that are pathetically easy to use against the average untrained opponent, but are too crude to decide the outcome of a fight when more advanced variables (mindset, training, speed, power, technique, strategy, evasion, environment, sheer randomness, dare I even say "chi," etc) come into play.
We all have advantages and disadvantages as males and females, as well as as individuals: men might be stronger and better able to take damage, women might be more flexible and better able to avoid damage, etc - different but equal. When we pick which martial arts we train in, we have to acknowledge that each style has its pros and cons, many skills specialize in rock-paper-scizzors type inter-relatedness, some styles are better for light/agile people, others better for large/tough people. Taking all that into account, the idea is to train in styles and skills that maximize our advantages and minimize our disadvantages.
I am by no means implying men and women should train differently when studying the same martial art. But just that we as individuals must all acknowledge our innate strengths and weaknesses (which vary between male and male, between female and female), play up our assets, and make the most out of what we got. If the training is done properly, then the average cross-sex playing field (not talking about extremes here) should theoretically be a lot more equal in one-on-one matches.
P.S. About smaller, lighter opponents being less capable of taking damage... I've seen Chi Kung demonstrations where kids have bricks broken on their head without flinching, bend metal with their bare skin, and could withstand many pounds of pressure placed onto their body. Basically, one of Chi Kung's benefits seems to be near-invulnerability to external pressure/strikes/pain. *shrug* Could be something for lighter/smaller people to consider to even out ability to withstand damage.
P.P.S. I suppose all of this was talked about before, but I'm new, sorry!
In combat & in sports women are weaker than man & the reason is the difference in physical attibutes & biological composition, but there are also some men weaker than other man becuase of size & weight.
That`s when martial art comes in to help off set the difference. Unless a female plans to fight in a male tournament her MA training should be good enough to guard her against regular street thugs & muggers.
Hand to hand fighting is something that female should try to avoid, armed with a weapon a women can be a match against any men.
With due respect, don`t get carry away with those chi kung demo because a lot of times in a real fight they do feel pain & they do get hurt too.
i think that male-female should train together and sparr or box or fight one on one
b\c by saying they can't its as saying that women aren't good enough
i have watched women and men go one-on one alot and the women are better sometimes and same for men
by haveing men and women fight together
its giveing [I]us women a challenge
i like 2 be able 2 fight someone who is aggressive and that has a lot of power
men make it easier 2 give women more of a challenge and so do other women who try
i hate it when guys only think of women as girls who are like 'i'm done....I BROKE A NAIL' omg women can fight to and we are good at it
well let it be that women and men do fight together...and equally
*Love moriah*
p.s. i do go one on one against men and guys and other women

Reason: women can fight men
So you need less training for a potentially life threatening situation against a thug who’s got it in the mind and enough in the body, than you would for a tournament?
No, the training will be a bit different. In ring tournaments you train base on the rules of the tournament that one wish to participate at also conditioning & lots of endurance & stamina training is required.
In the streets, adrenaline & the courage to really inflict deadly damage on your attacker. In the streets anything goes, theres no point to fight hand to hand if one can find a weapon to use.
Female once armed has an equal chance to survive as it is a man. If no weapon is available strike to any parts of the body is allowed no rules this is the difference between street & ring tournaments.
In the streets one fight for survival the use of maximum deadly force, in ring tournaments one fight for glory, prestige, public show & in some way commercialism.
In my school, women and men are treated the same. Women don't get special treatment or easier training, because in the real world, no one gets to have quarter. No serious bully or mugger would give any person a chance, man OR woman. I believe it's good that men and women train together, in hopes to better learn new techniques and get a lot better.
But this comment seams to suggest that one needs more training to be successful in a tournament.
The reason it needs more training for ring tournament because first her opponent is a train fighter too you must remember when martial art was first develop it was to give the smaller person a chance to survive against a bigger & stronger opponent. But once that bigger opponent start to train in martial that advantage is either taken away or diminish, this means the smaller person have to exert extra effort. 2nd. the opportunity to use deadly force is illiminated thus taking away again a weapon that a small person have to overcome her more powerful opponent.
Physically, adult women & men of equal weight & size the male will have an advantage of strength & power. Speed wise will what the woman need to overcome the power & strength of the man.
