  • Speed Bag skills for women.

The Speed Bag (Speed Ball in Europe) is a great tool for self defense.

It can help you repetitively punch a moving target within a foot of your face with Fists AND Elbows. It is an effective HOME activity that is simple to use.

Here is a website to help you learn how to use the speed bag.

Train Safely and hope this helps advance your training efforts.

      Speed Bag Source/Reference Book

A great book for speed-bag drills is Martial Arts Training With Equipment by Dan Inosanto. A couple of hours practicing these drills and you can blow away people who think because they can do the 'roll' they know how to use this piece of equipment...lol A Thai Boxing drill is down elbow-back fist-down elbow-back fist. Incredibly easy to do. Modify it later with spinning back elbow. Also if you get a good rhythm established, try uppercuts and stop-hits, and working with a soft bag sometimes. It is very important to get the height correct, so you may have to stand on a platform if it is not height-adjustable.

Another Selfish Plug (for muay Thai, of course...lol)

Years ago I saw a lady on the Late Show with Johnny Carson (showing my age here) who was punching a speed bag mounted on a wall. I mean, the speedbag had to be punched up and down or side to side, it was literally mounted on the wall, not on a platform perpendicular to the wall. She was in her 70s at the time, and said her father had made her and her sister start working the speed bag when she was a pre-teen. I happened to mention this to Master Chai one time when we were jogging and he said "I know her. She came to one of my seminars." I may have been dreaming, but I swear he also said he presented her with an honorary beginner's diploma. She was in her late 80s at that time. Too bad she is not around to contribute to this thread
