  • weight training and muay tai

    Hello Ladies.

I have been doing a womens muay tai kick boxing class for about 8 months. Before that I did weight training about 3 days a week and cardio on the other days. Since I have been kick boxing I haven't been doing hardly any weight training. I decided to try and incorporate in back into my workout but it seems that I cant lift as much weight as before andI get tired out. I do the muay tai class 3 days a week and try do to the weight training in between. ANy insight or suggestions would be appreciated.

It would make sense you can't lift as much and would get tired, since you've had 8 month's "rest". If you really want to weight train, just go back into it slowly, and monitor if/how it effects your Muay Thai.

Also, you might like to ask your question in the kickboxing forum, or the training methods forum.

Don't worry about the weight training hurting your muay Thai. If you are female, you should weight train your entire life to offset the potentials of osteoporosis. Besides, making your bones more dense helps to promote better cleansing of your blood, and also will make you better able to take and deliver blows. Every camp I have been to in Thailand has a set of weights, and the better fighters regularly use them. Getting tired is a normal part of any new regimen, but by now, anyways, you are probably noticing a certain amount of exercise acclimatization. If you are still noticeably fatigued, you might look at your diet.
