  • women and martial arts

let me give you a little bio on myself

I have four sisters and two mothers. most of the people in my past school were women.

and i would have to say that most women are not as good as men are in martial arts for multiple reasons.

one is that they do not try as much as men do. i have seen women try martial arts and they just don't try hard. for example, when i was studying goju-ryu i would come every day i was supposed to because i was determined to succedd. but this girl would only come in one time every three weeks. after a couple of months i knew more kata than her and i was an orange belt she was a green belt. yet even when she went to grading she got her new belt. i got promoted too but that is besides the point. and the only reason she got her belt was because sensai felt sorry for her. now you could say that is only one example.

but me knowing more about women than most people male or female due to experience.

women tend to be lazy in most of the things they do. the only thing they are truly motivated to do, is there hair which just proves how vain they are. now don't get me wrong i do respect some women.

and i believe if women want to learn martial arts then they should truly try then just to try to get high rankings for recognition. and if they are willing to do that then i would rather a female than an unwilling male.

I DON'T BUY THAT!!!! My daughter is ten and trains hard. This kid goes to the adult advanced classes and is better at the push ups and sit ups than most men.She also knows her form and PDT's better than them. She and I have worked on sparring and her intensity has really improved.I'm a 38 year old man and she has hit me harder than most of my sparring partners.

      no way

I absolutely do not agree with that! I have been practicing martial arts for a while and have seen many people come and go. women are lazy. I don't know what school you go to or anything but around here the women are just as good as the men. They come to the school at least 3 times a week just like anyone else and train just as hard as anyone else. They want to be there, and they want to train their butts off just like any other man would.

It's amazing how many young men here know so much about women. And not just one or two women, but the entire gender itself.

Adults.... adults... my kingdom for an adult...

            LOL

Women have a distinct disadvantage aganst men. They are, for the most part, smaller than men on average. this means less of a reach. It also means less stopping power. It also means they have less mass and can take less punishment.

The same also goes for a smaller MAN.

Its possible for women to defend themselves from a man of any size but the first step is realizing the above facts and training accordingly.

heh well platnum angel does have a good point, i have seen a young girl (in kendo, a very unforgiving art, if don properly )
my class, most people weren't sure why she was there, grading came along, she was supposed to go for a "men"(head, and god i hope i spelled it rihgt, sounds the same ) hit, but ended up about 3 seconds after begining the movement (it should be fast) to hit the kote (fore arm, once again not sure of spelling).
she even started crying in the middle of it, almost stoping completely, i felt bad for her, but at the point i was annoyed that she had stayed as long as she did....then again iv seen 14 year old girls continue a Team canada practice with a broken foot, not getting it checked and then having to run to her exam the next day because she was late for her exam! Not even complaining! now thats tough!! so it can go either way.
p.s. the girl was one of the most "fragile" seeming ones there, was just a regular kid, not butch in any way.
but if you were going to get a stat on woman/man performance more women would fill the lower ranges, but there would still be some girls at the top of the pack! STOP GIVING YOUR KIDS BARBY"S

You seem to know a lot about the plight of the 'smaller' man.

ok i am a female and taking both sides of this some women that come in my class dont do good because they r afriad of hurting themself or the other person(if u do it right and with control ppl barely get hurt) also they get a scratch and stop or god forbid they break a nail, personally i think the point of being their is to give ur all so that u learn all. i am very dedicated to what my art and do very well. i work out with the guys no holds barred, if they try to take it easy on me i work out harder so they see i am not some fragile little thing(which i am not little) so now that ive rambled ill close it all depends on the woman, some try , some dont and some do more than try

I'm going to agree with movalchick on this one. There are females where I train and most train as hard as the guys. Likewise, there are some guys (young and old alike) that don't give attention or effort to what they are doing. It's not "women do this" or "men do this" (think about the stereotypes women put on all men about dating or relationships or anything else they stereotype us about....they don't fly either, do they?). Some women are lazy as are some men, and some women train their a$$es off and it's not a matter of how butch or pretty they are. There are a couple hot females that are training where I am and they kick some a$$ too.

I think women have the physical disadvantage of having much less testosterone to build muscle with. And, even in this day and age, society can condition a woman into accepting a woman's role (playing with dolls and being drawn towards less "masculine" pursuits).

But that doesn't mean women are not men's equals. They can easily overcome these things if they choose to, and the false sense of security men get when taking a woman on could well blow up in their face if the woman has trained hard, and to her strengths.

Have a go at women if you want to. Everyone has the right to make an arse-hole of themselves, and such gender bias gives you a black belt in being one.

It all depends on the person.

thanks for agreeing with me and i played with dolls and do what is considered "female" activity but i still kick butt in class everynight and still get out there and work on cars and i usually hang out with guys so what society has told me in regards to how to act i have taken little notice
