  • To Women On This Forum

To the women on this forum,

I implore you to read the thread I started, "Just the facts."

I want you to read what the men who post here, men who claim to support equality, freedom, and justice for women, really think and believe. It is amazing what men reveal when they are talking to other men.

I hope some women will enter the room, listen to the conversation, and voice your thoughts.

    Sincerely,

    Lorne Coleman

Are you including me in this message?

If you are, I find it very distasteful that a man who claims passion for women's issues sees nothing of any value from someone who would be his ally. I am a man who does take action with women's issues (as well as women's issues that deal with race stereotypes as well). I am a man who frowns upon things like strip parlors, pornography, rape culture media, etc. and voice my grievences about these things both in speech and in the printed word. I am in the process of writing articles, getting involved with organizations who work to change these things as well. I do not go to strip bars, I do not keep silent about things I see in media, film, culture, etc.

Even as I do all these things, there is one thing I do not do.
I will not oust men like this, and give them fodder to turn against an important issue like this.
Men suffer from their own hurtful stereotypes, and if equality is to be honestly expressed men and women have to take responsibility to weaken these stereotypes.

A man who is made to feel like a "real man" for being noble, compassionate, helpful, and a strong family-oriented person will more than likely be more motivated to get involved with women's issues.

A man who is ousted, flipped off, told he is a "pig", he has no control over himself sexually, etc. Will be more motivated to resent any and all people saying such things.......and their cause.

I hope you can see where I'm coming from.

    Ryu

And just so you don't misunderstand, I am not saying you have said that men are "pigs" or they "can't control themselves" etc. But I think the tone of your posts has maybe done more harm to this issue than it has good.

      Men DO have a responsibility.

But women do as well. We need to work together and speak up, or else things will continue to degrade.

      Take care,
      Ryu

Loone, you wouldn't know what equality was if it trotted up to you and whistled a tune.

        EDIT - a looney tune.

You really are a dimwit. All men are not rapists. Spouting off like you do puts women's rights on the back foot. Women don't need their rights associated with this madness.

          What's so bad about porn?

I think the men in porn are as degraded as the women. Now that's equality!

Loone (I stole that one Bri...I like it )....I don't recall where anyone in their threads was not supportive of women's freedom, equality, and justice. We just think you're a fanatical idiot that spouts off and blames everyone for the actions of a few. You seem to be trying to turn women against men more than anything. You do more harm to women's rights than anything.

Just as a side note....if I follow your logic, should I do everything I can to help Jews because I'm part German and 50 years before I was born, a German by the name of Adolf Hitler persecuted and executed many Jews? What about African-Americans? I'm white...am I automatically responsible for the slavery inflicted on their ancestors by other white people's ancestors?

Perhaps the women aren't moved at all by your twaddle.

They weren't all blamed for things they didn't do.

                    Thai Bri,

Your posts on various threads demonstrate that you are using the very power and control tactics (insults, name calling, attempts to humiliate) that you claim not to use.

I encourage (not challenge) you to visit the site of Men Stopping Violence and the Los Angeles Commission on Assaults Against Women.

                    Respectfully,

                    Lorne Coleman

                      Sure thing.
But let's swap emails instead of posting on this particular forum. Does your site have a direct email?

                      Thanks.

Now where have I claimed not to use any of these? I list them amongst my favourite past times, second only to knocking people off their self made pedestals.

Loone, your hearts in the right place. But your brain isn't. You have lost objectivity and work with your heart rather than your head.

Lorne, what is it with activists and their "challenges"?

Here is a challenge for you: Teach women to be more aggressive and to be responsible for their own actions/inactions. When I say more aggressive I mean to turn it up a notch or two. Simply teaching the the movements (punching, kicking, etc.) isn't really enough, is it? It's like a nine year old blackbelt. The skills are there, but the strength and aggression to use those skills effectively are not. A little kid can pound on you all day long and it may hurt after a while but it's really just an annoyance.

As far as taking responsibility for their actions/inactions, how about teaching them not to dress in what some people consider a slutty way? By dressing with a little skirt that goes down just past crotch level and wearing shirts with extremely low-cut neck lines it yells out to some less-than-respectable men "take me." It would be like a man dressing like a tourist then going to a bad part of town waving a wad of cash around. It screams to the criminal element "I'm an idiot who needs to be robbed." When it comes to inactions, teach them to actively be aware of their surroundings. Much like the driver on his cellphone. He knows he's in traffic but he's not paying attention to it.

First let me introduce my one-self, i dunno if im recognized on this lands, im Xebsball aka Xebby aka Xebs aka Marcos aka Marcão, born and raised on KFO (thats where i began to post yeah)

I'd like to know from Ryu and other peeps, what exactly do say against pornography? Like, let me ask this better, why shouldnt people watch pornographic content (magazines, videos, internet)??

I'm just saying cos its probably easy to deny all that (porn) if you are (on sexual basis) physicly and psychologicly satisfied most of the time, or oftenly, or in not too far periods of time. But if you literaly dont get any, what should you? Just explode or something? I'm saying its both physicly and psychologicly very bad if you stay too long without sex OR masturbation (in case you cant get sex).
Thats where pornography comes in, it provides more estimulation to one when using his hands - if not that, one goes out on the streets and starts starring a lot MORE at women and maybe even semi-stalking them just to get a good look at their physical attributes - wich do you think is better?
On either cases (watching or not porn) you will imagine praticly the same thing (on your mind) when youre perform masturbatory actions. The difference im saying lies on the level of estimulation, and that is related to ones satisfaction as well - after all if pr0n didnt provide more estimulation no one would go for it at all.

Bottom line: pr0n makes a very frustrated sex life a little more estimulating and bearable, so why would all of a sudden people just not watch it anymore?

One of my quotes of wisdom:
                              "Masturbation is meditation"
