I've seen some heavy big guys that can glide on their feet. Also, if they're heavier your shot probably won't be worth crap since all they have to do is a halfassed sprawl to counter you.

It may not be as FUN as dominating your opponent but it's much more educational...
And as far as taking too many liberties - if he's bigger than me, but not stronger than me or faster than me, I'd still rather fight him than a guy who was smaller and stronger or smaller and faster.

I mean - what good would wrestling be if all your opponent had to be was bigger than you and he could work at a half-assed pace and still dominate you?
That's what the second moves are for, anyway.
If I shoot in, he sprawls, I'll either drive up and into him and put him down - or I'll sit out and take his back or I'll peek out or I'll barrel roll.
But there are a lot more second moves than that.
Not to mention the setup. I mean, are you just blindly shooting in on your opponents without proper set ups? Or do you work an arm drag, a two on one, an underhook or a similar setup/control position before attempting?
If you have good, strong setups you can easily shoot in and take down a larger opponent.
To say "If he's bigger than you, he just has to do a half ass sprawl, and you'd be stopped dead" is just not true.

The 205 pounder was really good but the other guy was lightyears ahead of him as a wrestler. When it went down on the ground, the little guy could do alright on bottom since he could use his explosiveness. But on top and neutral, there was nothing he could do. On top, all the big guy had to do was base out and chill there and he couldn't be moved.
As for the takedowns, the smaller guy would shoot and might even start to get a hold of the legs but all the big guy had to do was put his hips in and it would completely destroy his shot.
Just saying "oh if he sprawls I'll just drive up into him" is kinda bs until you actually try it. It's like if somebody had a tumor and the brain and just saying "oh, well all you have to do is remove a piece of the skull and take out the tumor." It's easier said than done. There are factors, like accidentally cutting his brain with the scalpel and making sure no bone fragments get on the brain. So with doing a takedown on a bigger guy, there are factors. If you shoot in on that big fella and he does a halfassed sprawl, you've got to support a ton more weight, not to mention all that strength you have to deal with too.
Of course the setup is important and should be the key to getting a takedown on anyone regardless of size. The problem is, they don't have to react as fast because they have weight and strength to back them up. I don't know about you but back in high school I've went against beasts in my weightclass who had Herculean strength. They were utter crap technical-wise but all they had to do was grab a part of me and try to chuck me which-way-and-that. Hell I've even seen one of our own 155 pounders who made it all the way to states with sheer strength, cardio, and testicular fortitude alone and nothing else (Funniest moment I remember of him was when he went to states, his first match, he jacked the guy up and threw him on the ground and went on top of him. He stares at him for a second then looks up around frantically for the coach before finally spotting him. He yells at the top of his lungs, "COACH.....WHat do I do????. He didn't have much experience at all really and combined with the stress of being at a state competition whatever little technique he had just went out the window).

Last time, my friend recommended this article, but he was disappointed that it was different from me. I found out that each person could think differently, so I think I should be more careful, but I hope you continue to post good posts https://totobun.com
