So, any Sumo fans 'round about?

    Define "fan"....

Being that Judo was the first "formal" MA that I was exposed to I've developed an appreciation for Sumo but I'm afraid it falls short of fanaticism... More like passing interest in the players and the game. It all seems a bit ... whats the word? Almost religous? You know? A little less ceremony and a bit more UMPHHH would be good...

If you were to give it a chance, watch a couple of tournaments from start to finish, you'd get into it.

Oh, don't get me wrong! I enjoy the sport to be sure. As much as I detest the ancient traditions and deities involved it has some fairly intricate subtleties that many observers fail to see or comprehend.

I appreciate the art for it's fluidity and strength. Those guys are just amazing.

Lets not drag them into MMA just yet but I think a lot of pro and college football players could learn a thing or two about THAT game by playing some Sumo

Sorry Ju... Too strong a word? No offence intended. I just don't worship ancestors or participate in the ceremonies and traditions. Seems a little too much like religon...

I enjoy the physical application, the arena and techniques and rules of the game...

            Looks like BIG fun.

Up to you, but it struck me as a rather strong statement. You may have some personal issue with religion, but I'm sure your life is quite full of influences from tradition and ceremony as everyone's is.

Anyway, my point is that with more exposure you'd focus less on that than on the strategy and technique and individual attributes of the wrestlers and such.
