  • Art of Soccer

    Hi you guys!

I'm so intimidated by all you professionals.

Anyways I watch too many kung-fu videos.

Mostly Jet-Li cause he's cute and all. But I got Jakie in there too.

But yeah after taking Gymnastics and Soccer and watching crowds of chinese doing Tai chi around town. I figured I would try and push myself to apply what I "Think" I know... which maybe totally wong though... to what I do know.

One idea caught my attention. "8 taels to move 1000 cattie"

I'm not sure where the saying comes from directly... but I've tried to learn to reflect/redirect the soccer ball rather then kick it or oppose it directly...
sometimes it feels like I'm just stepping into a puddle... or hitting a tuning fork when I kick the ball.

    Pieoeoeoeoeoeoeoeoennnnnnnnnngggggggggggggggg!

    Sublte yet, meaningful.

I also like drunken boxing... when I move around while juggling the soccer ball I tend to mimic some of the motions I've seen in Jackie Chan movies, where he uses drunken boxing.

I dunno if I'm doing it right but it's fun... and thats what keeps me going.
I fall down I just laugh even harder at how stupid I was.

    Drunk on happiness.

    Anywho, great forum.

I guess so, if you could call it an art, hehe.

I intend to focus it mostly on balance, movement, and setting up your body to strike. Not so much on actual defense or striking.

Its a non agressive art. Evasion, breathing, circular movements and contact with the ball. Conservation of energy to outlast your opponents. Instantaneous recovery. Subtleness, looseness... to avoid injury.

Soccer nowadays... well mens soccer on tv and local games I see are much too violent. I've consider soccer to be an expressive, beautiful, and graceful sport much like figure skating... somehow it went the way of rugby and ice hockey.
