My favorite would be Masahiko Kimura. He set a benchmark in Judo that still has not been matched.

And he embarrassed Helio Gracie so bad it took them 30 odd years to come back...

MAS OYAMA is the best in my eyes, he is the founder of kyokushin karate the only real traditional karate left in the world. he is a total bad ass. he was born in 1923 in korea then went to japan and trained in judo and karate. he once lived in the mountains of japan by him self and all he did was train for more than 12 hours a day. he lived in the mountains for 3 years. read his bio its awsome he was like a black belt in every major martial art in japan, judo shotokan karate alot.
