  • Middle aged in Central Iowa

    Hi,

Last Thanksgiving I decided to begin restoring my health & fitness. In my former life I wrestled (in High School), and did a couple of years of Tang Soo Do. Got married, returned to school, and got a desk job. As I approached my 46th birthday I realized that I was in horrible shape, and couldn't defend myself or my family, so I began working with a personal trainer. Over tha last 7 months I've lost 40 lbs and regained much of my strength, flexibility & endurance. I've just begun working with stick, starting with the Dog Brothers video: RCSF Series - 1 Power.

Ames, IA seems like the place not to be for FMA. Anyone else looking for a training partner in this part of the world?

    Jacob....

Greetings from a "middle aged" (46 also) Seito Shito-Ryu practitioner in Colorado. Our styles have a lot in common. Welcome to the board

Thanks. I wish I could say I still had a "style" - you're probably referring to my past with Tang Soo Do. I really wish I would have kept up with that, but I dropped out with a debilitating injury back in 1982, and never got back into it. Local schools are mostly traditional TKD, which I'll probably join when my trainer thinks I'm ready.

Hello to you middle aged guys. I also say I am middle aged but I will be 55 this month so unless I live to be 110 I am past middle aged. I have a school here in Thailand and teach stick fighting to mostly middle aged Thai guys. Mostly farmers who have to protect crops from thieves, which is a big problem here. I studied escrima and was defensive tactics and baton instructor for law enforcement agency in New York. Keep training and it will help you in all areas of your life.
