Gecko here. I am 21 years old, and was raised in Detroit Michigan. I currently live in Madison Heights Michigan (much better area). I started training in martial arts at the age of 13. My first instructor had a ciriculum based with Soo Bahk Do and Taijiquan. I earned a green-belt under him, then had to drop out. After some time off of formal training, I continued to train in the art of Tang Soo Do. I met people at this new school who had training in a myriad of other styles like Muay Thai, Modern Arnis, Ju-Jutsu, Capoeria, and many others. I often stayed at the dojo for hours picking their brains in search of street smart self defense techniques. After about 5 years of training in all these different arts, I came to the bitter realization that 93% of what I had learned was no good. Disappointed, I set out to discover the "be all-end all" in the martial arts. The conclusion that I had come to was, there is no "be all-end all", but rather "MY be all-end all". You see, self defense is an extension of your personallity. The way you defend yourself should be as unique as the individual. I go into greater depths of this philosophy in a book I am currently working on (I'll have more info on the book when its ready to be published). I am currently attending Oakland Community College working on a degree in criminology, and hope to get into tactical defense instruction. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
