Hello all!
This is ov1 checking in here at Mousels for the first time. I have been around for a long time in the mma world , and online at mma.tv since its beginning; however I have not been active in any forum for over a year. At mma.tv I was also ov1, but my real name is Brian Oravetz, and I live in Atlanta GA. I like to put that out there because I do not like to hide behind a screen name.
As to my experience I have plenty of that too. I began training when I was 11, and I am now 32. I have been VERY active since about 1996 with some great people. The first group that I had the pleasure of representing online was the legend Tim Catalfo, better known as Obake. The cast and crew at Obake were great.
More recently I have had the extreme pleasure of working with 5th Deg BJJ(CBJJ) Ricardo Murgel. I developed a very strong, family style relationship with Professor Murgel beginning in 1998 on his first long term stay here in the States. I had the honor of being his roomie for nearly a year. I truly hope that just a fraction of his training genius rubbed off in that time!
Professor Murgel is a very innovative teacher. He holds no old school traditions about BJJ. He believes in in depth cross training and places that notion on the mat more than anyone out there. I will also say that you will NEVER find a more technical teacher anywhere. His supporters have been active in assisting Professor Murgel to go back and forth between Brasil and the states in an effort to be the MOST up to date team in the country. The team is called the Union Team, and you will here more about The Union Team in the coming year. In Brasil, the Union Team record stands on its on. The team was undefeated in the Southern Brasilian Championships 11 years running. Professor Murgels' resume includes being a coach for the Carlson Gracie Team, and then the Brasilian Top Team after the break up. He shares a partnership with Mario Sperry in Brasil.
As for myself and training involvement at the moment, like I alluded to earlier I am coming back after about a year layoff brought about by taking a massive financial hit in the dot com market fall out. The bond that I made with my Union Team peers was one of the things that helped "keep the light on" in deep financial waters.
I will look forward to contributing to this forum in both positive and inevitably in someones opinion negative manners. I will delight some, and anger more.
I am a devout capitalist who believes in achieving through merit and hard work, not through sniveling and begging. If any of you have spent any time at mma.tv you will see that I have my alter ego's there that hold very strong opinions of my thoughts.
I love great and in depth debate, and try to avoid ad hominem comments. I will debate in most cases on a non emotional level, so I will anger some to be sure. So I say on the front side, don't take it personally! Just enjoy!
