You are from Indonesia but call your Silat style Batavian style, wasn't Batavia the dutch name?

what typifies this silat style? I ask this because there are so many

            Peace to you too

              Pencak Silat Betawi

              Toudiyama,
Yes, you're right. I just try to translate all... ( I forget it's not english)

It's called "Betawi" in Indonesian, and "Batavia" in dutch. Its the old name of Jakarta city.

I dont practice this style anymore (sometime I do the "jurus"(form), just for warming up)

The "school" is not joining the IPSI (the formal organization), very traditional style, many of the strike are aiming below waist, some to the head (but we always do it half ducking)-somekind of high low strike

The style emphasize only to physical training, not like other school with spiritual training also. However, the fighting move is too stiff for me, in sparring, the style still use the low "kuda-kuda" (stances), so it's a very heavy footwork to do

              peace

these low stances are the only reason(there is 1 other reason) why I never tried it even though there is a school in my hometown called manyang (see www.manyang.nl)
I'm 1meter 86 cm and I weigh around the 90 kg so these stances are hell to do on top of that, fighting like that is good for slippery surfaces which we do not have a lot in the Netherlands( highest percentage of asfalt in EU)

a couple of times we had PS people training with us during karate training and they were so foolish to do a sapu which the first time moved my foot 5-10 cm but the guy fought on as he had learned so my teacher tell me to also carry on, second time my foot even moved less and I was just to late with a dropkick, third time my foot didn't move at all anymore and the dropkick scored but I pulled it not to damage him, then he stopped fighting

the hand movement can trick an oponent as it did my students(they were watching the hand) but when I faced the guy I just did the same, move the hands a lot and then suddenly punch to the belly

I do envy the guys who can easely do the low stances

hello darrianation... I've seen your profile...I have a question, what is chinese kenpo...is it the same with wushu sanshou?

Hai dragonboy, you've been in bekasi timur? I know there are some pencak silat school, but I never heard about pencak silat sumatera (harimau?) in bekasi timur.

and don't worry about the "bule" thing , except for some exclusive pencak silat school (which means nothing special except their exclusiveness), almost all of pencak silat school with various style are now open for everyone. I have a friend, a "bule", he's an ex US Ranger now lives in Indonesia, who is practicing Pencak Silat Cimande., and he's good

                      always blasting

Chinese kenpo came to Japan from china in the 18th century. A senior members of the mitose clan from Japan had traveled to china and studied at the shaolin temple. The Japanese changed the name chu’an fa to kenpo “the way of the fist”.
Chinese kenpo is derived from the five animals kung fu system of the shaolin.

A man by the name of Ed Parker studied Chinese kenpo and created what is known as American kenpo. I did not study American kenpo I studied the japans version called Chinese kenpo (From the mitose clan). Basically it’s Japanese shaolin kung fu.
