    Hey Shelly,

Welcome to the board. People hear talk about martial arts, with a few inside jokes here and there.

Anyhow, good to see another lady on the board.

Why study if it's not useful??

Thank you for your kind response and giving me some insight as to the conversations which I know nothing about. Just wondering what 1st Kyu in Shukokai actually is. I know rank is different is different systems. Red Belt here = Brown belt there.

Why is everyone so down on martial arts? I think I might have picked the wrong sight. No women and men with inside jokes!

Oh well....but seriously, how long have you been studying and do any Uechi people ever chime in?

Thanks a bunch. Your friend in the arts,

      Shelly

You have stumbled into a room that is very anti Karate for the most part. Extremely anti traditional martial arts in general. And pro hard contact, grappling and boxing oh and can't forget muay thai. It is almost universal her that they will make fun of Karate, Taekwondo, Kung Fu, Tai Chi, pressure points, and anything else that does not involve boxing, muay thai, UFC, Gracie JuJitsu and the like.

Don't take it personally. You might actually be able to grow as a martial artist here if you read carefully and pay attention to those who know what they are talking about. The trick is figuring out who those people are. The other problem is figuring out when they are being insightful and when they are being morons.

As for three years. Non of my students could dream to get to blackbelt in less than three years. Most of them it is closer to five. That takes at least training most days of the week in and out of class.

        Good luck

          Thank you eXcessiveForce,

Could you tell me where I could find a good (POSITIVE) arena whereby I could talk about Martial Arts????

I am not sure what Kind of karate you teach but in Uechi there are only 8 katas. I know that I need to have 300 classes and accomplished certain things. I was eligible in April and tested in April. Not sure about all other systems since they are very new to me. But if you could point me into the right direction for some good martial arts discussion - that would be great! Thanks a bunch!

Actually, you have found one. Of course there are some that clutter the boards with mindless dribble, but there are others who enjoy talking about different training methods and the different disciplines of all MA. that is my humble opinion

I must agree with Jcolvin that this can be a positive site. if for nothing else it will make you analyze what you believe and possibly defend it.

I have greatly enjoyed reading other peoples points of view on things. Sometimes it just takes somebody to say something you already know in a new way for you to start thinking about it differently.

As I said you can learn here and become a better martial artist just realize that this is not a Karate forum it's a martial arts forum. With a high combative slant. They look at martial arts differently than many traditional schools.

I'm afraid I don't know of any site other than this one that you might find valuable.

If you have questions on training, how to improve as a martial artist, or want to know more about certain things this is an excellent place.

Don't let the resident nitwits get to you, even they sometimes can be insightful.
