Most of my friends don't watch it for the same reason. To be honest, none of my friends outside of the martial arts circle watch it.

Thinking realistically, MMAs tournaments aren't ever going to be as civilised as Tennis or Golf. I mean, we may call it MMA, but the average person down the street will just see it as "cage fighting", which will seem barbaric to them. That does change the marketing gameplan for all these MMA shops and vendors. I think they need all the help they can get the sell their products.

I think martial artists these days don't really need to be zen buddhists! It is possible to be a good martial artist (who is a good man at heart, trains hard and is willing to defend himself and loved ones) and also read FHM.

Martial arts is suppossed to be about doing good. Lusting after females is not good. It is wrong. If people want martial arts fighting to be accepted then they DO need to steer clear of the WWE mentality like the other person said. Parents will stop allowing their kids to take martiala rts classes anymore because they will assume its about women in thoings and being a thug and trash talking people and beating them up!
I mean it will come to that if this crap keeps up!

I would never let my kid (if I had one) learn martial arts from a beer chugging womanizing thug. Even if he did win the UFC!

The reason I dislike these kinds of discussions is because two frantically extreme viewpoints clashing gets little done.

Moral issues on the one hand need to be talked about in rational and logical ways, yet rarely are. Therefore many people blow it off because it appears to be "simply someone's opinion."
That's too bad.

On the second hand, one cannot burst into a place calling everyone "masturbators" and think it will spark a decent discussion where good conclusions will be drawn.

I very much agree with the point that "lusting" (as in objectifying and simply oggling over women) is a harmful thing, and I very much agree (and have seen the consequences of) that encouraging that type of behavior by encouraging women to promote it (whether it's their choice or not) leads to more social problems and stereotypes than it does good.
I think promoting any sport with those types of ideals is hurtful to that sport. Period.

Now, that being said, however. There is nothing wrong with appreciating women's physical attrativeness (or if I'm talking to women, appreciating men's physical attractiveness)
Nothing wrong or evil about the human body, or necessarily nudity itself for that matter.
WHY things become "wrong" stems largely from motivation, intention, and the people involved.

Moral truths are "truths" of reason, not "truths" in the way that we know about planets, geography, etc.

Unfortunately, as I said before, the issue probably won't be discussed in a decent way. Instead, just ad hominem attacks, red herrings, straw man fallacies, sarcasm, etc. from BOTH sides.

That's disappointing.
