I wasn't trying to bash what you said, but to use the power ranger kid that believes in that stuff as an example.

You are also right that it is all in fun and there is nothing wrong with having fun. However, the thread is "XMA, what is this crap?" So, obviously, the author of the thread is disgusted at the fact that this XMA is making Martial Artists look like a bunch of acrobats in a circus. From that premise, it is easy to find XMA to be a bunch of BS.

I didn't go off an personally attack you, so don't get all bent out of shape. IF you just can't help it, buy a tampon Just kiddin'.

what u don't think they tell them "hey....i wouldn't use this on the street?...u wouldn't win the fight." u don't think they say somethin?i bet they do. second they are not promoting nething....right b4 the show starts it says clrealy.."don't try any of this at home" but i see what ur saying as well

      m. artist: I see where u're coming from, and honestly if I see it on again, I'll watch it. But, they do promote the "deadliness" of the martial arts they show by actually using the word deadly...I don't care too much, I ain't gonna be some dumb ass hippie and try to say that it's somehow politically incorrect or anything.

HandtoHand: Sounds like I better call my cable operator

Dude that is just a disclosure remove any potential liability. Most shows that extreme physical demonstration have that disclaimer. The problem is XMA will tell you not to do it at your home but our school, why call it MA and why the hell call it extreme, very misleading. just my $.02

Yeah, the XMA is going to be sub-par if you judge it by its effectiveness. But it really isn't supposed to be effective. It's a means of challenging your body to do new things. It's more art than martial, and thats what they advertise it as.

                  Yes. Very lethal stuff.

Sad thing is that the XMA tries to potray itself as effective. If anyone ever say that documentary you will know what I mean. There sparring was doing flying kicks and they could not hold there own in a light contact point competetion with no punches directly to the face. There was a chinese dude talking about weapon and showed an iron needle and was saying something like "The blood really hipes me up and I am like waaaayoooooo and start going crazy." This guy did some roundkick against a standing still target and he was like "Imagine what that could do to a person if I actually did it to them, I have never been in a street fight but I have a feeling with a high roundkick like that I can do pretty good." What was less humorous was them trying to show grappling moves they just learned a few hours before the showing. What was really fun was how the person got prepared for the kata competition. He put water in his mouth and just spewed it out of his mouth everywhere and some dude in the backround was looking at him like he fell out of a dogs #$@. Also the costumes for the kata competetion were hilarious.

I think you're all biased after watching that extremely stupid and badly done 'documentary' (really sub-par for the Discovery Channel IMO).

I myself am a fan of Team Ryouko (ok ok....they're the 'hometown' team too ) who practice XMA....for movies and acting bits. They don't pretend to do this stuff for real-life self-defense, they do it for fun and the challenge. And it looks really good if you're going for an action-movie try-out

www.teamryouko.com if you're interested. (Check out the Friday Night Madness 3 video)

Oh, and hey, I'm new to these forums

they never said it was effective, they just said it was for fun...i don't participate in it nor think it's effective, but before i say something about i want to know a lil more first

Yeah!! go team ryouko!!! i love watchin their moves. sure everyone knows they wont work on the street. its not like they're gonna even try. i think they already know what they do is useless for any kind of real fighting. honestly, i'd love to learn that stuff on the side. just so before a real fight i'd bust out one ore 2 xtreme moves (at a safe distance) just to intimidate them and then bust out the muay thai for real lol. but anyways. i thought that show was cool just like how i think any jet li or jacky chan movie was cool. although some stuff did make me embarrased, for example, him not being able to break a piece of hollywood wood, spitting water from his mouth, calling himself a world champion, and watching them compete on CARPET floor. really, wtf is that? what kind of cheap place are they renting for the "WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS". anyways, i thought that the guy who did the sword demo was sweet. that was a good performance lol. oh and ballet? what kind of credentials is ballet??

i know my name is karate is cool and u may be wondering why i said i'd use muay thai... the answer is simple..... CROSSTRAIN!!! i highly reccomend it for anyone with the time. if u cant crosstrain, just dont do some wussy karate or kung fu. learn kyokushin or sanshou.

well there's my rant of the day

If you watch a couple videos of this stuff and reaserch it a little it's not all that bad. I'm thinking about joining a gym that teaches this, but not for XMA i really want to go there to learn Muay Thai and Chinese Kenpo, and some israeli combat system lie HAGANA or something like that. Maybe some XMA on the side. I mean it's not all thart diffrent from Wushu or Breakdancing and i don't see any of u bagging on that.
