thank you guys for this thread.

I my self am in a process of writing a book defending christians and their practice of the martial arts. and am infact trying to prove that martial arts is a valid christian discipline.

the devil consciousness thing has made some christians look like prudes which should not be.

i took the two afforementioned sites into account and will use these as references

            shuyun,

There are many other websites and sources (pro and con) dealing with the issues of being a Christian and a martial artist. I would be happy to throw a few more links your way via this thread, as I find them. You may already be aware of some of them, but anyways...

Dr. Zukeran examines martial arts from a Christian perspective, including their origins, the role of Eastern concepts, self-defense vs. turning the other cheek and whether a Christian should engage in martial arts. providing a comprehensive biblical worldview perspective.

Database, dictionary and glossary of apologetics resources on cults, sects, new religious movements, anticult and countercult organizations, ...

hope they are of some help in your research.

thank you very much. these are very valuable references. i have actually already stated these arguments in my draft but i have no reference but myself. this way i have another source to concur with me.

                  thanks a lot. God bless

to hell with that guy....talking all that crap about ki or chi as a deadly weapon. what about the woman who lifted a car of her kid after a car accident and was able to save him.. or about that incident i read that one person lifted a helicopter to save a kid.. yes if we learn to focus and control our chi it can be deadly as well as can save lives...my development in martial arts has taken the panic out of panic situations. not that im never scared (im human) but thru training and constant practice of the art DOES develop your mind body and spirit.

and you know he says altered states in christian religion...what about speakin in tongues....its a direct connection of speech between you and god...is that not right or anti religoius???? look im a christian man and martial artist...yes jesus did say turn the other cheek but buddy if you hit one cheek and i turn and you hit another then im puttin you thru the ground...christian martial artist or not......is this guy kiddin me or what!

Christ himself told his disciples: If you have no sword, sell your cloak and buy one.

The first karate classes that 'gijin' (sp?) ever saw, where conducted in a Methodist Church in Hawaii.

Most of the Okinawan arts have no religious connitations to the arts. There are some connections in a few of the Japanese arts, but for the most part they have worked that out of the programs, particularly if they are spreading out of the country.

Religion has been the downfall of worship. Religions with all their differing doctrines have one thing in common, they are all manmade. therefore each different opinion, has man's pride or passion acording to his personal belief. In this particular instance though, I would remind that person, that before he speaks for god, he should research god's opinion. for sake of argument as this man is a Christian, I'll make the assumption that he believes the bible to be the inspired word of god. That being said I would then remind him of this verse, in the book of his chosen religion. Psalms 144:1 - Blessed is the Lord my rock, who preparest my hands for war, and my fingers to fight.
