do any of u carry protection around regularly? i take the lightrail to school and theres alotta gang members, hobos, and crackheads that come on it all the time. these people do bad things from time to time. in fact 2 of my friends saw soeone str8 up get shot while waiting for the lightrail. i somtimes carry a small knife for protection.

my friend also gave me what i guess is supposedly this ninja weapon( at least thats what he said). its a small metal spike , but the end isnt sharp, it narrows but its dull. u can use it to hold while u punch to make ur fist stronger, jab it into a muscle, or u can jab it into someones ribs, or put in parts were a bone is covered by a thin layer of skin to break it it or cause pain. it looks like it would be a cool weapon and very legal. sometimes u can buy more dangerous ones that are hard plastic, but the end is a sharp spike u can stab people with. doesnt look legel though.does anyone know about this weapon.

i think knives are cool if u carry one responsibly. u can defend urself very well with a blade. all it takes is a small cut to send someone into shock.

I used to carry protection, but I'm married now so there's no use for any reason.

First, if you know there are bad characters on a trail you take to school and you truely are looking to keep yourself safe, then don't go down that trail. Walk around. Self defense starts at avoidance.

If you want to carry a weapon, legally, I'm all for it. But not if you are carrying it to feel more confident to walk through a known high risk area that can be avoided.

Not sure where you live, but if people are getting shot you may want to have the same weapons.

Never bring just a knfe to a gunfight, is my point.

I'm in Texas, so going to classes and getting a permit is real easy. You'll want to go to a firing range periodically to make sure you are sufficiently proficient with the weapon, and safe.

Avoiding the conflict is obviously the very best choice.

its not something i can really avoid. my school is in downtown, and downtown in any place is usually bad. these people are not only on the light rail but they come into our campus all the time as well. there are a lotta crackhouses and gangbangers in downtown. also i have to take the light rail, theres no other way for me to get to school because there is way too much traffic on the roads, and even if there wasnt theres usually no place to park downtown. i have to take the light rail. its not as bad as i made it sound, but its not the safest place either. ive never been bothered yet, hoewever ive seen some not cool stuff go down. people who are messed up on hardcore drugs 24-7 can be unpredictable.

Must suck to feel that you need to carry a weapon around. I know that some people over here carry pocket knifes and so forth but it's highly uncommon. I have nvere even thought about it. If someone tries to mug me and they are armed I tend to think that I have a better chance at not getting hurt if I pull my wallet out rather then if I pull a knife or gun out. Since so few people are armed the criminals are rarely armed with guns sso shootings are extremely uncommon. Almost unheard of.

I come from a pretty good neighbor hood but I have had more than my fair share of run ins with people pulling weapons on me, guns, knives etc. My opinion is that carrying a weapon around is pretty pointless and just asks for trouble.

In my experiance when your being threatend with a weapon its mostly just talk. Most people dont want to get charged with assault with a deadly weapon or worse murder. The knife or gun is there to intimidate you into doing what they want. However, when you pull out a weapon as well the situation changes. The guy now has to think about protecting his life from you, and is gunna get edgy and will be way more likely to use his weapon.

I have been in two situations where I have had a gun pulled on me. And I know there would have been no way for me to try to use any kind of weapon with out getting myself shot.

I feel like your just better off with out.

                .
I agree a criminal probably wouldnt have the same problem I do with taking a life. And like you sai they would prefer to avoid it most likely. I just feel that once you yourself pull out a weapon it puts the criminal in a situation where they can no longer avoid it.

and yeah your right you cant just pull out a weapon if your being robbed and assume thats gunna scare someone off. If you have it you need to be prepared to use it.

I'm agreeing with alot of what H2H had to say. You may, but I won't try and guess what some criminal may or may not do. Their criminals. And carrying a weapon is a viable option for self defense. And it should be dealt with in a safe a mature manner.

Fixed my post up there. Used quote tags instead of bold, oops.

Even if you are carrying a weapon, that doesn't automatically mean you have to pull it out and use it. It means you have an equalizer. You just have to make the decision depending on the given situation.

Also, your first action my not be to draw the weapon. You may need to start pre-emptively with a strike opening up the drawing of the weapon.

I live in Sweden, and we are blessed to have very few crimes with firearms involved. Also, I think that the would be robber over here would think twice about killing someone if he can just mug them (as in I give up my stuff and don't put up a fight). A simple robbery won't give hime/her more than 2-4 years, with them getting out in mayb 1,5 if the follow the rehab programs and whatnot, while murder would give them life, which generally means atleast 15 years before any chance of getting out. Quite a big difference. So I still think that if someone is aiming a gun at me or has a knife at my throat I will be better off just giving him the cash then if I pull out a weapon of my own. If I do I am either forcing him to use his weapon, or I will be forced to use mine, and I don't really want to kill anyone, even a criminal.

obviously im not gonna try and use a knife on someone who has a gun aimed at me, and thats not what i carry it for. its only for when i need it and i am able to use it.

Over hear the most people convicted of killing someone get 20 years, and many never even get charged let alone convincted. In fact if he doesn't have a disguise on he may be thinking something along the lines of that if you're alive that you can pick him out of a line up, but if he were to shoot you and dispose of the illegal gun he'd be less likly to get caught.

The point that we're making is to fight back if you gut tells you that you're in danger and it's him or you, and weapons increase your ability to fight back.

Is it Sweden that has the yellow byclycle program.
Well, it sure is different. Most killings over here get solved, maybe because we have rather few, and thus the police can focus their efforts on the ones that actually happen. I know it's different, I used to live in Austin, Texas for a year, and it seemed to me that shootings and killings where quite common. Overe here a murder is on every national newspapers front page. So I do belive that the criminal would be more likely to just mug me, given that there is alot bigger chance of getting away with it, since the police won't spend as much time solving it, and given that even if he is caught he can be out of prison in as little as 1,5 years.

Also, I tend to belive that if every other person is armed then the criminals will need to get bigger weapons or use them in a more brutal way. If the mugger knows that there is basicly no chance of the victim packing a gun he will likely just have to show his piece to get compliance. If on the other hand he thinks that there is a big risk of the victim beeing armed he may want to just shoot first, and ask questions later. Easy access to firearms for everyone means easy access for criminals to. But this is of cource my opinion, and it is hard to prove wich way works. No one knows how Sweden would work with easy access to firearms, and no one knows how the US would work with more restrictions, so all we can do is make theories about it.

Yellow bicycle? Never heard of that..
