  • knightly arts?

sorry, figured this would be the best place to post this.

I was wondering if any of you considered the european armoured combat to be a martial art? now I know that hollywood has usually depicted armoured combat as a bunch of wild swinging of swords with no general direction, however this is not true (ask any live steel combat person or even a SCAdian) the weapons, all of them, took quite a bit of skill. your opinions?

Sure do think so, they had wrestling and sword practice, jousting and archery, the whole nine yards.

Maybe so, but most of the SCA-types I've met knew more about eight-sided dice than they did about actual European history.

Out over here Louisiana, Barony of Axemoor to be more specific, we do have a few RP people (myself included) but for the most part have our facts straight, btw, I've heard references to ancient Scottish martial arts, specifically kickboxing and stickfighting (nothing to do with sheep however ), anyone have any info?

          shillellagh

Not about the scottish arts, but about Celtic Irish arts.

Everything you'd like to know about the shillelagh, Irish stick-fighting and Irish martial arts.

If you write to him, he will forward you ongoing information. Currently they are trying to bring together people of skills and knowledge. Doing research, I found this website. Pretty good stuff.

Yes, it is. I don't see any reason not to see it as an MA. In my opinion it is one of the MA's with so much written record of to have been used in history. And I guess it's because it has been overly recorded - even in fictional books - that it's presence as a Martial Art weakened. But it definitely is a Martial Art.
