WASHINGTON, Sept 1 (Reuters) - More than 20 countries, from allies Germany and Japan to prickly Venezuela and poor Honduras, have offered to help the United States cope with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

Accustomed to being a rich donor rather than on the receiving end of charity, the United States initially seemed reticent about accepting foreign aid,

The United Nations offered to help coordinate international relief efforts for the United States.

Earlier, President George W. Bush said in a television interview that the United States could take care of itself.

"I'm not expecting much from foreign nations because we hadn't asked for it.

The State Department said offers so far had come from Belgium, Canada, Russia, Japan, France, Germany, Britain, China, Australia, Jamaica, Honduras, Greece, Venezuela, the Organization of American States, NATO, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Greece, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico, South Korea, Israel and the United Arab Emirates.

Also I heard China donated 1000 tons of supplies; generators, blankets, ect. This is the first time China has ever donated goods to the US.

They should be, as in they aren't.

That's right they should have offered help immediately, like we do. But it's asking to much to expect a little back, isn't it?
      [/QOUTE]

That's just it, they did, it has just not been accepted jet

Tell me what's wrong with what I said.
The way you put it you seem to considder a large part of those who stayed behind either dumb or criminal

Yes, that's exactly what I think, Einstein
Well that sez it all, doesn't it?

Absolutely I never criticize the government, I always support the government in everything they do.
Never as in Not ever or Not during this Administration?

Did I ever blame the UN and/or IRC? I said that they should be assisting and they are not. When did I ever say that this was their fault? Perhaps you should take off your partisan glasses and what you read won't be so clouded.

Let me translate that for you; “Your decision to blame somebody is yours…so long as you agree with me.”
Your decision to blame somebody is yours as long as you keep an open mind
and do not start to blame for things that aren't true

Understand that most people here just didn't see how bad things were, we didn't expect the floodcontrol of your country to break ( most damage has been done by the water not the hurricane)
We alsso were in the assumption that the cities were evacuated en expected that in a country like the US this wouldn't have been a problem and in no time hhekicopters and other help vital in the beginning would be on its way from other parts of the country
When things became clear, help was offered but sinse it wasn't accepted yet, most people in the US are unaware

Swedish 8,000 L/h water refinery stands waiting on the tarmack because the offer hasn't been accepted yet but in an old age home people die of de-hydration, these are sad times no matter who might be to blame

Keep an open mind? Don't blame people for things that aren't true?

The world would fall apart if people started living like that....jj

Instead they were removed from flight duty...you must admit thats a strange response to stepping up to the plate during a disaster.

By BILL KACZOR, Associated Press Writer Wed Sep 7, 6:12 PM ET

PENSACOLA, Fla. - Two Navy helicopter pilots were reminded of the importance of supply missions after delivering their cargo and then rescuing 110 hurricane victims in New Orleans instead of immediately returning to base, the military said Wednesday.

One of the pilots was temporarily assigned to a kennel but that was not punishment, said Patrick Nichols, a civilian public affairs officer at Pensacola Naval Air Station.

"They were not reprimanded," Nichols said. "They were counseled."

Lt. Matt Udkow and Lt. David Shand returned to the base from their mission on Aug. 30, a day after Hurricane Katrina made landfall, Nichols said.

Udkow and Shand met with Cmdr. Michael Holdener, who praised their actions but reminded them their orders were to fly water and other supplies to three destinations in Mississippi — the Stennis Space Center, Pascagoula and Gulfport — and then return to Pensacola.

"The Hollywood role of this thing is search and rescue," Nichols said. "Logistics was just as important. They realize that."

The two air crews picked up a Coast Guard radio call that helicopters were needed for rescues in New Orleans, said Lt. Jim Hoeft, another Navy spokesman. They were out of radio range to Pensacola, so they decided to fly their helicopters to New Orleans and join the rescue effort without permission.

It took only minutes for the H-3 helicopters to fly to New Orleans, where Udkow's crew plucked people off rooftops. Shand landed his helicopter on the roof of an apartment building where more than a dozen people had been stranded. When he returned to get more, two crew members entered the building and found two blind residents and led them to the helicopter.

Udkow later received permission to continue with the rescue missions when he landed to refuel in New Orleans.

Both helicopters returned to Pensacola, about 200 miles east of New Orleans, by dark, as required by flight rules. Nichols said no supplies went undelivered as a result of the rescues.

The pilots and Holdener were not available for interviews Wednesday, Nichols said. He said Udkow was flying and Shand was resting between missions.

"We all want to be the guys who rescue people," Holdener told The New York Times. "But they were told we have other missions we have to do right now and that is not the priority."

The air over New Orleans was so thick with helicopters a few days later that crews were having a hard time finding people who needed rescuing, but that was not the case when Udkow and Shand flew their rescue missions.

"I would be looking at a family of two on one roof and maybe a family of six on another roof, and I would have to make a decision who to rescue," Udkow told the Times. "It wasn't easy."

Nichols said Udkow was in no way being punished by being put in charge of a temporary kennel in Pensacola for pets of military personnel who had been evacuated from hurricane-stricken areas.

"It's a collateral duty," Nichols said. "These guys don't just fly. They do other stuff."

I’m still waiting for the UN and IRC.

Well if you look at the Reuters quote from 1 september HtTKar posted, you see I'm not the only one but then again Reuters isn't Fox News, so how much do YOU trust that

Maybe you should start watching other stations too, so you do not get onesided news coverage
I do not just watch dutch TV, I watch the BBC, german TV, belgium TV and CNN too And as dutch TV covers the complete political spectrum, we are more likely to hear all the information than you who stop watching a station that reports anything negative about your favorite politician ( we have 3 stations that cover the whole political spectrum and they aren't fixed to one station)

Isn't it amazing that with all those TV stations as well as radiostations in the US a Reuters report from september 1st hasn't reached you yet?

Perhaps quotes like these explain the lack of availability to all the facts...

"We are grateful to the Washington Post, The New York Times, Time Magazine and other great publications whose directors have attended our meetings and respected their promises of discretion for almost forty years. It would have been impossible for us to develop our plan for the world if we had been subjected to the lights of publicity during those years. But, the world is now more sophisticated and prepared to march towards a world government. The supranational sovereignty of an intellectual elite and world bankers is surely preferable to the national auto-determination practiced in past centuries."
                    --David Rockefeller, Baden-Baden, Germany 1991

"I think you can be an honest person and lie about any number of things."
--Self-described 'unbiased broker of events,' and CBS anchorman, Dan Rather, when asked in an interview: "Do you think Clinton is an honest man?"

"Our job is to give people not what they want, but what we think they ought to have."
--Former president of CBS News, Richard Salant

dont you feel these quotes seem to suggest you may get only the news your government feels it best for the nation for you to recieve?

Thank god we now have fox news for a fair and balanced view of the world
and of course Bill (oh really) and the no spin zone

Maybe you should get a life, and stop watching TV all day.
As if I can't watch these all in a couple of hours

Half the stations you listed are not readily available in the US.
yes and almost none of the stations that are available in the US are available here, so what?

You really can't help yourself can you? It just goes against your basic nature to be a decent human being. I personally can say that I don't spend my life glued to the 24/7 news channels, as I don't like watching others in misery. I know people who do like watching others suffer spend their life glued to such channels. [/QOUTE]

Yeah right lets turn it around, lets blame me for being informed to prevent me from blabering nonsense
I don't watch news channels 24/7 either ( we do not have any except for cnn) I just like to get my news from multiple sources, if you would have done the same you wouldn't have posted this nonsense

I really shouldn't have to explain this, but most European TV is not available in America.
And I realy shouldn't have to explain that you have even more choice than we have ( I can get 30 stations of which some 10-15 have newsblocks which I can understand)
