Never washed my belt, not because of any legends or rules just because they do not get in contact with your body and we would take off our Kimono( gi is not just the jacket but the whole outfit) when it became to wet ( plus the belt hangs at a position where there are 2 layers of cloth between it and your body)
People who do wash it, often want to make their black belt look worn down to show that theu are BB for a long time already
Also in the dutch climat you would need 2 belt as it would take some time to dry the belt after you wash it ( and being dutch we do not want to spend the extra money
