    Battery.

About once a month I take out my car battery and wipe it down with a wash cloth dipped in a baking-soda and water mixture. I believe it helps neutralize any acid that spills out.

Once the battery is re-installed, I apply a tiny bit of petroleum jelly around the terminals. It cuts down on any oxidation (rust) and minor weathering.

Most batteries come with something like a 36-month warranty. I've found this tiny bit of maintenance (less than 30 minutes per time) stretches out the life maybe a few months

Did I mention that I was an (aircraft) electrician in the Navy?

Did I mention that corrosion control was a big part of electrical systems maintenence?

A car battery warranty means it's guaranteed to last that long. If you keep it charged up it should last twice that long. (or longer)

Mine is a cheapo 36 mo batt that's almost 5 years old...
Good job Tom. I only do that if the terminals are so corroded the car won't start...

I buy a new car before the battery has a chance to go dead

I know Tant. The Warranty means if the thing dies, you can bring it back in and get it replaced for free.

No the skills you learn at Rex Kwan Do

At Rex Kwan Do, we use the buddy system. No more flying solo. You need somebody watching your back at all times. Second off, you're gonna learn to discipline your image. You think I got where I am today because I dressed like Peter Pan over here? [points to Napoleon]

Rex: Take a look at what I'm wearing, people. You think anybody wants a roundhouse kick to the face while I'm wearing these bad boys? Forget about it.

Last off, my students will learn about self respect. You think anybody thinks I'm a failure because I go home to Starla at night? Forget about it!

You're still talking about cars, right?

                        No skills.........

Would it make you happy if I said something like:
If you have trouble getting through inspection,
(emissions) then load up with STP treatments.

Now are you happy, we're back on topic!!

i used to use a silicon spray on my battery terminals, spark plug wires, & distributor, especially in winter, the cold New England winter, ....(that is for the car, not the babes, get your head out of the gutter) in which the average battery didnt last all that long.......but now that I live in socal, batteries last for seemingly ever..........five years I got the last battery to last.....amazing......i never had a battery last that long in my life.........it can make a bid dif, wher you live, the kind of climate, etc.......

this worked great, but made it quite difficult to give or get a jump, making a connection required scratching the post a few times........
