One thing to remember is that not all attacks end in fatality.

Listening to on Pitbull attack victim this was their story briefly.

They were visiting their friends house and sitting at the kitchen table. They knew the dog and had been around the dog many times. The owner got a phone call and left the room. Shortly there after there was a noise outside that startled the dog, the Dog then attacked the lady sitting at the table. She required 100's of stitches to the face. The dog until then had never shown signs of agression.

Another was when a family kept a pit bull as a pet. One day their young child fell down and the dog attacked.

All dogs are capable of attacking. but some are more prone to attack and some can do much more damage than others.

Big dogs can do more damage than little dogs. And pitbulls are territorial and are known to attack family members of pet owners.

the pics don't really prove shit other than that children were the unfortunate victims of dogs that had irresponsible owners/breeders...

I don't think banning aggressive breeds will help much. People will just jump on the next bandwagon and get a different kind of big dog, like a Rottweiler, Mastiff, Alano Espanol, Presa Canario (got these names from the meaner looking pics in Sagacious "dog quiz" link). Then we'll just have the same problems with the "Ghetto breeding" and irresponsible owners with other breeds. I think part of the problem is that pitbulls are very popular among aggressive idiots. These morons will just go for another popular mean-lookin' dog if they can't have a pit. I'm not speaking of anyone here, it's just a personal observation. I have yet to meet a responsible pit owner/breeder.
(Gonzo may be one, but I haven't met him. )

yeah, you got the right idea, better measures need to be put in place; but definitely let the punishment fit the crime..

I actually liked Gonzo's idea of testing out the dog around other dogs and people, and if it doesn't pass, then you can't register it.

but unlike Boobaji, you are definitely more objective and rational.
Boobaji is one of those type of people who, if they hear from the news that all sorts of people are being injured by butter knives, he'll be the first to call a ban on it...

pitbulls attacks are like shark attacks man. if you get attacked by one, no matter what happens, your going to be horribly disfigured for life. fck that, i wouldnt own one nor do i want to be around them. why would u even give yourself the chance of being an update on ogrish.com ?

true martial artists who are really concerned about their self defense always do their best to minimize risks of harm to themselves. so why the fck would you even run the risk of having a dog known for sudden agressive behavior that ends in horrific violence and physical disfigurement and death hang out in your living room?

and whats funny is every single time there is a pit bull attack, the owners ALWAYS say what a great dog it was, and how shocked they are, and how the dog had been nothing but the best pet ever.

i may not be gq or goodlooking, but i thank god everyday that my face wasnt chewed up by a dog. in fact, you know what, here you guys go. yeah im gonna post it. i want you guys to see this pic. whatever your problem is, just look at this pic and realize how luck u are not to be in this persons shoes and give thanks to god.

                    OMG!! Thanks for that EmptyneSs.

The problem with the pro-pitbull arguement is that it falls back on requiring responsible breeding, training and handling of the dog. It sets up qualifying requirements for the owner to ensure that the dog is safe to be around. Kinda like owning an exotic or naturally feral species, like a bear or a tiger (remember Roy's tiger? And that guy was an EXPERT in handling tigers!) or owning a firearm. No matter how expert or responsible the owner may be, a firearm left laying around in the open can more likely result in an accidental shooting and ANY animal roaming around loose in your house can attack.
So, you wanna get shot with a .45 magnum or a pellet gun? Or do you want to lock that gun up under lock and key or simply not own the gun? What about the dog? You wanna get attacked by a cocker spaniel or a pit bull? Or do you want to keep the dog in a cage at all times or simply not own one?

Thanks for the pictures guys, how about we post up some of people that have been in car accidents next? Anyone want to ban cars? Maybe you'd like to treat us to some graphic pictures of gun shot victims? Somehow I don't think you're going to get the people on this site to support banning guns

You're absolutely right that banning a breed isn't going to change anything. You'll just see other big dogs in the same situations, it isn't like pit bulls are capable of anything that other dogs aren't. I think your idea of having some sort of training and certification requirements for owning a large dog is an excellent one. Owning a powerful dog is a big responsibility and that could go a long way towards making sure that people are prepared for what they will have to do. Frequently what happens is that a person gets a big physical dog (I'm thinking of an older woman who had to get rid of her American Bulldog because it bit her) and then treats it like a cute little lap dog. That sends a message to the dog that the dog is dominant and in control and that's when the trouble starts. If you aren't willing to take a firm hand and enforce discipline on the dog then you have no business owning a large dog.

You are uncommonly stupid, you know that? You keep trying to sell this childishly false analogy and no one is buying it. If you think this is some kind of clever ploy, you are wrong. If you really can't see how illogical it is, then I just feel sorry for you.

how is having a Pit Bull any more potentially dangerous than driving a car, or owning a handgun...

This is the false analogy again. Are you being stupid on purpose, or is it just something that comes naturally to you?
