i was reading an article today about how Jesse Jackson is currently in the middle east and recieved assurances from syria and hezbollah that the three captive israeli soldiers are alive and well. what i want to bring up, is that the fact that jesse jackson has actually succeeded multiple times in winning the freedom of captive prisoners around the world through diplomacy. despite the fact that jesse jackson has been involved in some shady stuff in the past, i sure as hell cant say that i ever saved anyones life. i never did anything as good as winning the the freedom of a captive human being. my question is what makes jesse jackson so successful as an ambassador of goodwill? how come foreigners trust jesse jackson so much and are willing to negotiate with him and release prisoners after meeting him? how does this guy do it? do you guys think jesse jackson is truly a good person? he may have been involved in some shady deals, or so the wickipidia states, but then again all politicians are so mabye its not a big deal?

i agree, that jesse jackson is a very questionable character and there is much controversy surrounding him. thats why i was astonished to find out that he has actually secured the freedom of many people around the world during his career, and thats pretty cool. i doubt ill ever do anything as great as saving another humans life, so i cant really talk shit. despite all the controvery he has been involved in, he has done some good things as well.
i really do have a problem with the fact that jesse jackson tried to make himself famous off dr kings death. jesse jackson tried to tell people that he was on the same balcony as dr king when he was shot, and that he cradled dr kings head in his arms when he died. the fact is, he wasnt even present on the balcony despite trying to claim he was. but still, he has saved the lives of other human beings, wether or not it was just to make himself look good or to make money.

Who's freedom has he secured?
And this:
If I were a two-bit dictator kidnapping Americans for attention, I'd like nothing better than to have Jesse Jackson show up at my door. That way, I can get in the newspapers (piggy-backing on somebody famous), and release my hostages before anybody gets really mad, AND I get to stick in the American establishments eye - all at the same time.
Heck I'm going to go out and kidnap some whiteys right now!
Gonna have to go with Jubaji on this one:
Jesse jackson is a race-baiting, self-serving tool.

In June 1984, Jackson negotiated the release of twenty-two Americans being held in Cuba after an invitation by Cuban president Fidel Castro.[3]
In April 1999, during the Kosovo War, Jackson traveled to Belgrade to negotiate the release of three U.S. POW's captured on the Macedonia border while patrolling with a UN peacekeeping unit. He met with the then-Yugoslav president Slobodan Milošević, who later agreed to release the three men.[4]

In 1990, he helped win the release from Iraq of more than 700 foreign women and children detained as human shields against an American military attack after Iraq's invasion of Kuwait.

Well to be fair, he doesn't negotiate with them, as far as we know.
What does he have to offer them of value in exchange? He doesn't so much negotiate as much as he convinces them.
I don't like the guy. Too shady, too self-serving. It's cool he has saved lives, but I think others are right. He's just a convenient way for the hostage holders to escape the situation in a way that lets them make their point without having the hammer brought down on them.
Put yourself in their shoes. You hate the greatest superpower on the planet. Its military could vaporize your entire country in a week if it really wanted to. A country that could also remove you from power and topple your government just as fast.
You have several hostages in your control. If you kill them, you gain nothing except outrage and the hammer being dropped. If you can get some American representative to come over and beg for their release in front of the world, you seem "generous" and reasonable, as opposed to bloodthirsty and cruel. Jesse gets to play to the cameras.
It's a total P.R. move for them both.

I'm not by any means suggesting that Jesse Jackson is a saint, but I am saying that as politicians go, he ain't half bad.
To be honest, no one stopped any other politician or religious man from going over to the numerous countries that Jackson has gone to in order to save lives. What's everybody else's excuse for not going?
The problem here seems to be that people view him as looking for glory instead of doing what he actually did: Risking his life to save others. Let me ask you this: What kickbacks did Jackson receive by risking his life and going to negotiate for the lives of these men?
Most of the men he got returned alive weren't black, so it wasn't to garner support for the "black" vote.
Jackson is marred in the media, so its not for his perceived image.
His efforts are constantly devalued despite his long record of service to the people since the days of Martin Luther King jr.
He's been arrested on many nonviolent protests with Dr King and on his own. He wasn't getting paid for that either.
So what are the self serving advantages that he's amassed going overseas? Is he some celebrated American hero? Is he getting sneaker endorsments from Nike?
What's really pathetic is that some view him saving lives as him making America look bad.
Was Jackson making America look bad when he went to Venezuela to smooth over supposed man of God Pat Robertson's moronic implication that President Hugo Chavez should be assassinated? Hmmm ... but its Jackson that makes America look bad?
I wonder if Jesse Jackson was getting some under the table deal when it was him that went to support Terri Schiavo's parents in their fight to keep their daughter alive? I'm sure he got loaded off of that move.
Again, no one is saying the man is a saint, but don't try to single him out as some unique self serving politician. He like every other politician plays the game. However you may feel about him, unlike most politicians who only make promises, he's got one helluva record for getting shit done.

People like you feel like men like him shouldn't get ANY publicity, and that they should just go away. You call him an attention whore, but it would be so funny to see how long it would take for your punk ass to assume the fetal position and start screaming for Jesse Jackson to come save you if you were one of the captives. I'd give you less than an hour.
Emptyness made it clear what he meant when he started this topic. Jesse may have been involved in scandal, but how many people can say that they've actually saved lives? You've made it abundantly clear that you wouldn't have done anything even if the situation arose where you could have, and you would try to justify your cowardice by saying "I wouldn't whore myself like that".
If you were so worried about whoring to our enemies you'd be asking why Bin Laden is still a business associate of Bush Sr in the Carlyle Corporation, even though he's "supposedly" our greatest enemy. You'd be asking why IMMEDIATELY after 9-11 why all air traffic in the United States was stopped except for one plane allowed to shuttle the Bin Laden family out of America. You'd be asking why we blew up so much of Iraq only to give Halliburton the contracts to "rebuild and develop". Then you'd as why 53 American senators voted against independent committee hearings into contractor fraud in Iraq. If Jackson whored himself out to gain from Anheuser Busch, isn't it only fair to point out that the Bush family, specifically Prescott Bush whored himself out to the Nazis?
Is our President a whore? What about Dick Cheney? Or maybe its that jubaji hates the whores and votes for the pimps? Either way only a fool demonizes the small fish and turns a blind eye to the sharks when every American is in the water with them.
That brand of "blind eye" politics is the same reason why we've been losing the war on drugs in America. Law enforcement and the court systems make it their business to arrest the petty street pushers who are lucky to ever have $1,000 in their pocket at one time. They turn their blind eye to the kingpins and drug czars that grow it out of the USA, smuggle it in and then store it until it can be distributed to the lower level channels. So while the minorities who get arrested for petty sales and distribution are plastered all over the news and on shows like Cops, the drug kingpins who are the root of the problem get to keep their pristine images intact and even go as far to denounce drugs and drug activities in their social circles.
So instead of trying to be some righteous armchair pundit, try using some common sense. If the shoe fits, apply it across the board where its appropriate. Not just where you feel like being a pain in the ass.
