  • Help Me To Understand

I belong to a traditional martial arts school that has been evolving. We now offer MMA and grappling. I'm fine with that and have signed up with the class and am learning some very valuable things. Now I'm in my forties but in better shape than most teens because of my line of work and my constant efforts at the gym and dojo. I try to always conduct myself in a way that would honor my parents, family, God and my Art. I hold in high regard most people who share the same love of Martial arts as I do and would almost never talk smack about them. BUT......... This MMA is breeding a new generation of martial artist that isn't being taught mutual respect or honor. The respect for your opponent or the budo that you bring into the ring with you is as much a part of your Martial Art as the punches you throw. Or at least it should be. I've seen mmartists like Hughes, Shamrock, Franklin and they conduct themselves with honor and are a credit to the sport. I've also seen other artists and I won't name them , but they do little more than act like WWWF wrestlers. Am I so Naive as to think that sportsmanship if in its simplest form is the most important part of any sport?

Shamrock is done, both of them. Hughes will be done soon. But Franklin is a good sport.

Ofcoarse there's always gonna be your trash talkers in combat sports but 95% of the fighters in professional mma have really good sportsmanship.
