Originally posted by lucidmist View Postto Tom Yum, thanks for all the constructive feedback. yes, competition is good. i've never disputed that. just that many winners, not all, upon winning, do not reflect or display the martial class of humility or respect for your opponents. they stamp on the opposite style, insult the practitioner. i have never insulted an opponent even when he's down. even the close friends that learn what little stuff i know from me, i'd tell them never to put down your opponent and his style or master just so he can go back to train in contempt, with vengeance as a mentality or motivation. that's just breeding the wrong example and mindset of how a true martial artists or winner should be..
I try to keep things as polite and professional as I can. I think you'll find that in 9,000 some posts, the overwhelming majority of them have been constructive, polite and professional -- in spite of individuals whom have come on here, tried to start trouble and even made personal threats or lurk on here for juicy gossip.
I think you'll find most people on here are decent and respectful folks; even those with harder edges have good intentions.

I think people who don't train in martial arts should realize that those who do train, man or woman, can use their body as a weapon and that this increases their chances for surviving some kinds of physical confrontations.
And that they will use their training if their life or others are in danger.

I don't look for trouble either -- I am respectful, mind my own business, try to do more good and someone out of mental instability, greed, ego or spite can come up and bring trouble to me or anyone else.
You're right; you can't win them all.
That's no reason to worry. A true warrior feels bone-chilling fear but is able act through that fear. He knows death (and taxes lol) are guaranteed in life.
Its reason to stay more focused and more committed in your martial arts training. Its reason to take courses on edged/blunt weapon use and defense. Its reason to go to the firing range, learn and respect the legal bounds of firearm use and improve your shooting accuracy with different kinds of rounds.Last edited by Tom Yum; 07-31-2007, 01:05 PM.
