We all train to do devastating things with our hands, elbows, feet, etc., some arts primary function is weaponry, and some arts teach traditional weapons. Do you train or have you been trained to deal with improvised weaponry. And if so, do you have what it takes to deal with moral implications of cutting someone open or smashing them with a brick?
I would not hesitate to hit someone with a brick or even shoot someone if I had to, but I don’t think I’d be able to cut someone open with a knife.

We train with field expedient weapons.

We also train knife, and in that training discuss the morality of using a knife on another person.

Cutting some one purposely and defending yourself, I feel can be separated.

If someone attacks you and you defend your personal space with any weapon, say in this case a knife, then anyone who has been forewarned, or who is violently invading your personal space, will meet the blade.

If they hadn't been where they weren't supposed to be, the knife would never had touched them.

Therefore they cut themselves by running into the blade.

If you lunge at someone with your knife and cut them, well that's a different thing.

Have you experienced this for yourself? I have smashed people in the head with a brick, but I don't think I've ever cut anyone in anger.

Unless you've done it, you don't know if you can do it.

Regardless of the time you spend "walking the path of the warrior" or whatever, no one is impressed by phrases like "they shall meet my blade". Except other wierdos. Hurting people even in self defense isn't fun, and the time spent imagining doing so would be better spent improving the relationships you have with the people around you.

And why the heck did did you smash people (plural!?) with a brick, J?

Oh, you know how young people can be, overly exictable and disagreements get out of hand and such...

Never cut anyone out of anger myself, self defense yes.

I've also defended myself with a shovel before.

I've never fought with a brick, don't seem to carry those around that much.

Been attacked with a 40 oz bottle though.

I think that if I were forced to draw a knife, my first intention would be to intimidate, and then if they pressed forward, I would have no other option but to use that tool.
Surviving would be my only thought.

Hell, fear is a powerful motivator, so is the thought of getting home to your loved ones.
