  • A breakfrom tradition

For those of you who train in traditional martial arts, when you train or test for rank, is there a part of your training or test that test your competency not just your ability to memorize a technique and do it effectively on a person who offers you one straight punch? When I ask this, I mean does someone of higher rank try and physically attack you in a non traditional manner? As a Kempo instructor, I’ve abandoned the traditional punching in and made my students learn to defend against a flurry of punches, or a nontraditional attack. If your traditional martial art is more progressive in training methods, will you please post some of the ways that that they are different?
