Sparring Legal Issues

Hi, just wanted to get some question answered that has been in the back of my head for a couple of days now. My question is, is it legal or illegal to start a sparring club in california even if its on private property ( like backyard, garage, etc)? The sparring partners would of course have to abide by the house rules, protection optional ( I recommend protection), but I think it could be an opportunity to train with some of the best fighters, learn techniques, and open minds as to what you can do in different situations. Can someone give some input?

I have heard of the Dog Brothers, and even saw a documentary of them on National Geographic about a week ago. I would be interested in going up to northern california to at least get a chance to spar with one of the guys up there. That would be awesome.
