Ring Master

So I decided I'd give making a ring a try. I did some research on the subject and found an item called PMC3.

I made a mold and got some stones to p[lace in it. The white diamond is a real diamond, the purple is an amethyst, the green is a lab grown emerald and the small one in the tooth is a diamond.

Next it goes into a kiln to be fired.

Your going to fire a real diamond? they burn

Naw, this is low fire precious metal clay it fires at 1250 f for 20 minutes, I expect the emerald will melt to a flat disk but the other three will be ok.

If it was something that required a 4-12 hour firing I would be worried about the diamond.

Got the ring back from the kiln. It had to be fired and then cooled for 18 hours. Diamond is all good.

This is after I cleaned it with a stainless steel brush.

It's a hoot. Here's a pic of it after a couple hours of sanding with 400 grit abrasive cloth.

Lord no. Which makes it a huge pain in the ass.

Oh yes it has. But I'm not going for a high mirror polish. I'm going for more of an antique look. I have some bronze dust to bake on later to give it a "dug up" kind of look.

This is after another couple hours of sanding with 1000 grit abrasive paper. It's starting to get shiny.

I'm sure the photos don't do it justice. It's certainly unique!

Yeah. My digital camera is out of commission right now, so I've had to use my cell's crappy camera.

that metal clay is pretty interesting. Wish i had a kiln.

I rented space in one in my area for 15 dollars. I just called around to pottery places.

Here is the final product. Dusted with bronze powder and then lacquered. Hope it still looks like it got dug up. Gonna try a different design in a few months.
