Even the definitions of simple, effective, and practical will vary. While Muay Thai is simple, effective and practical on a firm, open consistent surface it may be the least effective and least practical in a more natural setting where you may have to contend with holes, trees and bushes.
I guess they all stink, I'm buying another gun.

"That's how I feel, I'ma do whatever I like ... I was raised in this society so you can't expect me to be a perfect person cause, I'ma do what I'ma do."
Personally i believe that all MA's are useful to some degree, some more so than others. It just depends what context you want to use the MA in.
For example, if you are a bouncer you may choose to practice Muay Thai and BJJ, as most people would agree is this a practical combination for self defence, where as a person who wants a MA to relax may choose Tai Chi.
As Great Sage stated,
"Many of the strikes are basically useless in fighting (try "Hungry Tiger Catches Goat" on an adversary and you'll know what I mean)."
but people practice MA's for different reasons, some for competitions, self-defence, etc.
Okay so some people are going to compete with other hungry tigers catching goats? Cool, ask them to take a video of that and have coroner send a copy to me so that, i can send it into; What Were You Thinking, or Americas Funniest Home Videos.
i like some people like doing the traditional side to martial arts, i think thats wot seany85 was tryin to get at.
