Yep, you should be able to at least give them a race. I raced a 200SX with a Bluebird SR20DET swap and a big turbo....if he could've hooked up (gotta love RWD....you'll run into FWD issues too with enough power), he would've been at my door (he was about 2 lengths back as it was). I love being surprised by a car that it's not expected from. The 4.6 Mustang isn't that great stock. An 03 Cobra will ream me six different ways from Sunday though.

Here's one thing I don't understand.....engine swaps. You buy a car with 116hp stock and swap in a 200hp engine. Then you buy a turbo (and all requisite piping, solenoids, wastegates, etc), intercooler, injectors, better internals, and all that other jazz to get 300hp and run 13's in the 1/4. Course, with the money you just dropped into all that, you could have an 11 second Fbody or Mustang. Hell, a 5.0 with a huffer is about the cheapest way to go fast. My cousin says "I like taking a slow car and making it fast." I say "You'll never get out of the 13's without a shitload of money. Why don't you start fast (like high 13's) and go faster (like 11's and 12's)?" I guess us Fbody guys do engine swaps too....a guy in the local Fbody club "swapped" in a 427 MIT engine and another guy is "swapping" in a 383 stroker.

What is cool about the Accord is that you don't have to swap the engine to go fast. The engine is around 260hp on premium gas and is not supercharged or turboed. Even though it's a V6 you can still pump out low 14's in the quarter with no mods. I remember back in '96 when I bought my TA and it ran 14.2 in the 1/4 bone stock. I think it's amazing that a few years ago the foreign cars were so slow and now they are gaining major ground on the american sports cars. The mustang cobra would eat up that TA but you have to keep in mind that it's supercharged and my Accord would eat up that TA too if it had a supercharger so that is pretty cool. I was going to put a turbo right off the bat but then found out that I would have to tear out a good bit of the engine compartment to fit it so I opted to just stay with the bolt on parts for now. The supercharger for the Accord does not require any cutting of the engine compartment so I have been thinking about going that route but would much rather the turbo.

oops my bad lol your right 200 - 300

i was talking about my favorite manufactererees

ma everyone i know has had a problem with their ford. my uncle got mustang(black)GSK first his insurance skyrocketed and then about after 30k miles he had to replace some things on it.i know this one guy who ownes the same car(darker yellow) he has never had a problem with his ford. but then again he never races doesn't stress the car too much. so mabye its the person who uses the car. thats the only good story i have heard out of ford. lol.

i have heard that it costs more to replace parts for foreign cars though.

i thought it was better to put in turbo to smaller engines and supercharge to bigger.

        foreign cars ruleeee!!!!!!

As with any car, if you push it hard, things will break. AWD cars have tranny/clutch issues when launched too hard....every force (amazing traction) has an opposite and equal reaction force (which all goes back on axles, differentials, driveshafts, u-joints, gears, etc). The LS1 is an amazingly reliable motor, but if I ran it to redline through every gear, it wouldn't last me long. Stock motors (even performance motors) are not meant to be abused....run them hard, but if you beat on it, you will break stuff. Local guy (yes, I know alot of car guys here) has an SN95 (last body style) Cobra with a Powerdyne SC on it....the only problems he has are his tires....they keep going up in smoke.

The only choice on turbo or super is how you want your power delivered. A big turbo works very well on a 350 because of all the exhaust there to spool it....LS1 Motorsports has a "bolton" T76 kit that will put an LS1 at 600+hp/tq with only basic boltons (intake, exhaust). But obviously, you know that a turbo has lag. An SC is there pretty much from idle, but has parasitic loss from driving the belt. There are tons of advantages and disadvantages for both. A turbo is adjustable on the fly....a supercharger is too if you can find some way to crawl under the hood and swap the pulley wheel while the car is moving. It's really dependent on what your application is.

I saw a race not that long ago where there were too Z28's and one was supercharged while the other had been turbocharged. They were running almost identical horsepower but you could see a difference in the way they ran. The supercharged car definately got the jump off the line but going down the track a little ways the turbo charged car came alive and started pulling back in there. At the end they are usually about the same but usually if one of them takes the other the turbocharged one wins. Alot of racing has to do with the driver too so maybe that has something to do with it.

That's somewhat true falcon. It's one of those things where everything has to be identical to really be a fair comparison. Naturally, when you start talking modified cars, there are way too many variables to count....from the boost pressure (10 psi on an SC is not the same as 10 psi on a TC) to the tune on the car. Along with that, the turbo kit they have for the LS1 runs like 7psi, whereas many 4 bangers run 20psi. Then there's the all most important factor....cfm (cubic feet/minute). If car A flows 700cfm and car B only flows 400 through the throttle body, you've introduced a bottleneck and naturally, car A is going to benefit more from it's boost (actually boost is tricky...boost is a measure of how much air ISN'T getting used, so a car running 20psi will not be running 20psi if some part of the intake or exhaust system is opened up...it will drop some with an increase in power due to more cfm)

That is one race I would love to witness. The owner of LS1 Motorsports has a T78-powered SS Camaro that runs 9.8x in the 1/4. It's got 700 some hp and torque....friggin' monster.

Nothing a little nitrous to aid in spoll-up can't handle.

I had a pretty stock '90 Mustang LX (gt40 tubular intake, pro-m air meter, exhaust and a Paxton sc) Supercharger was running 5-6 psi and I ran a 12.6 @ 111mph the day the car was stolen, Never had the valve covers off.
And this was 10 years ago.

My buddy that does the street racers has an old Stingray he is trying to sell right now. It has been restored to original condition and runs in the 9's in the quarter. It is all fuel injected now and runs on the street pretty good as well. You will get plenty of looks when you pull up at the light and have a huge blower sticking up out of the hood.

That doesn't sound very "original" to me. My dad has a 63 Corvette convertible...1st year of the Stingray (his was produced within the first month of production...just a cool tidbit...'specially since that car will one day be mine). I can assure you that in it's original condition it is neither fuel injected with a blower or running 9's. Sounds like quite a bad little vehicle though. What year is it?

I don't know exactly what year it is I would have to ask him I know it's from right about the time they switched from the leaded to unleaded. That's the main reason it's fule injected now because the models right after they switched from leaded to unleaded went down a good bit in horsepower and overall speed. I think that model ran a 15 stock in the 1/4 so it wasn't all that fast. It's one bad machine though I know that much and looks sweet as hell too.

Man, Ghost sent me some links to the UK car places to show me what they have over there and I feel sorry for them. About the biggest engine they run over there is a 1.8L. That is horrible and most of the cars look like damn eggs. They have an Accord over there but there are only two models. One is the 4 door (doesn't look like the one from the US) and the biggest engine it has is a 2.4L 4 cylinder. They also have a station wagon model Accord!! How weird is that. They don't have other cars like the Altima and Maxima which have been replaced with smaller and weaker cars. About the only trucks they have is the Nissan truck with about 150hp and the ford ranger. Must suck to live in the UK.

lol thats funny, like the egg comparison.

Yeah we get a really limited range of cars with sucky 1.6 engines.

If you look hard you can find a 2.0 and if youre real lucky like me a 2.5 litre car, wow.

Most cars look like eggs yes, thats a nice way of putting it.
