90% of the wrestlers in WWE were once either professional or at least college athletes. Kurt Angle and brock lesner were great wrestlers, steve austin played football as well as the rock and many more wrestlers im sure, the Big Show was even a basketball player in college. You can not say that the wrestlers are not athletes. Im sure that if they all participated in mma that many of them would be doing pretty good. take the rock for instance. He is like 6'5" i think and he moves like a lightweight. Brock lesner would make a fine candidate for mma too. he's a monster.

WWE- staged athletic entertainment
WWE looks hard on the body, but I don't think of it as serious for fighting. The only exception are those guys who where collegiate wrestlers.
Kimo choked out Bam Bam Bigelow, the 350 lb brawler from WCW.
Tank, who participated in WCW said that most guys in wrestling would loose in the octagon in one of his mag interviews.

Each and everyone of those Pro Wrestlers could whupp almost anybody here.
Just coz they performing for shows it doesn't mean that they aren't as hard as nails.

I don't like these speculations very much
Kurt Angle would win in a unlimited weight fight against Couture f.ex. because Angle is the better wrestler and he has more weight. But what does this tell me?
Angle maybe would lose against Rizzo because he doesn't like strikes ...
Questions over questions.
I think that the guys that are on top in MMA can say that they deserve it.

Pro Wrestling
I myself would not look forward to squaring off with a pro wrestler; don’t get me wrong if attacked I will fight to the death if necessary and God help both of us then. But to discount physical size and conditioning as a factor in martial arts is a grave mistake. Even in the arts like Akido, and ju jitsu, etc. which rely less on strength and more on technique, balance and form; Physical conditioning an size will still be a major factor. Easier to throw a big man, harder to lock his wrist and you can go on for days regarding weakness’ and strengths. However I think wrestling biggest weakness is the same as most Martial arts and that is they train to fight those who fight the way they do. That would be my advantage in a fight with one and my down fall if I fail to exploit it.
Size, strength and physical conditioning Matter.
Test: Fight a pro football player with not traing and then fight Tom Arnold.

A professionell fighter will NOT fight against you.
If you have a gun and ask for his money he will give you his money and call the police after you have been gone.
No one wants trouble

Tyson isn't the only one, in Holland Regilio Tuur(boxer) has problems in that department ( he hits his ex)
And in MMA we recently had a case of a well known name that hit someone in a restaurant because his boss was irritated bij a mobil phone ringing

okay first off pro wrestling is fake fighting and the guys who were not trained in real wrestling or any other fighting art would probably get their asses kicked by a MMA. But I could see a lot of the pro wrestlers training in martial arts and THEN going to fight in a MMA event.
I would think that if Goldberg trained hard in martial arts then he could be a really good fighter. He has a huge body and is very tall and has long legs he could kick well with.
I cant wait until pro wrestling goes out of style and all that is left is real fighting. Pro wrestling used to be cool but now its just stupid. Especially the female wrestlers. Totally lame.
Even Eric Bischof has a black belt in Karate or something.
Pro wrestlers are trained in the art of fake fighting with techniques that would NEVER work in real life. Like jumping off of high areas and doing 3 flips and landing on their stomach with your stomach. Also I dont think a drop toe hold would ever work. And why do they always do front kicks with bent knees against the ropes? They also do knees by leaning sideways into the opponent and that takes all the power away. Why do they do drop kicks and then land on their stomachs? Thats not realistically going to work.
Do you ever think that UFC will get as wild as pro wrestling with backstage brawls and Hardcore Matches and SIngapore Cain matches? Lumber jack matches? I mean they already have CAGE MATCHES! haha. I would love to see a Royal Rumble in the WFC!! WOOO!
For some reason in pro wrestling the martial artists never win or go far. The Kat, Ultimo Dragon, The Great Muda, Blackwell, etc...
Does anyone remember when in WCW The Kat and that white guy who wore a black belt had a REAL kickboxing match on Nitro? That was cool! The Kat beat the other guy up but was disqualified for doing illiegal moves.

Yes, professional wrestling is fake, however Pro Wrestlers can beat the hell out of 90% of the martial artists out there. It cannot be overlooked that these guys are on the road 5 days of the week, take tremendous hits and bumps, and yet are still in remarkable physical condition. Pro wrestlers must have both strength and cardio endurance.
Of course many of the moves would not work in real life situations, but many of these techniques are descended from legit moves. Many wrestlers when they are being taught the basics are first taught how to do the move "fake" but are also told how to apply a technique if your opponent suddenly decides he doesn't want the match to end the way it has been written. For instance, the old school sleeper can easily be modified to a choke. A powerslam followed by fake punches is easily modified into a double-leg into the mount followed by strikes. People who get into the business are by necessity tough people. Like some of the other people have mentioned, the Rock was a collegiate and pro football player, as was Goldberg. Tazz is a judo black belt. Chris Jericho and Lance Storm were both bouncers.
Bottom line is that pro wrestlers are:
1. In superb physical shape.
2. Are used to taking punches.
3. Are by neccesity tough people.

Kurt Angle, Brock Lesnar, Bret/Owen Hart... I know for a fact those 4 are REAL fighters/wrestlers and would destroy most people.
As for guys like The Rock, Stone Cold, Undertaker... well they're tuff as hell, but not sure how they'd go against someone like a BJJ Brown Belt. Probably just get dominated.

I remember seeing the tapes of how the Harts trained in their home in canada. They beat the hell out of new guys. They started out with more legit moves and then moved on to the fancy stuff. It was funny as hell when the old man Stu Hart or whatever was beating the hell out of the new guys. In the beginning these guys all had the living hell beat out of them. All I know is that I would not stand toe to toe even with their lightweights. I would however not mind mud wrestling with some of the females
