Funnily enough it was I who was suppose dto have made such a distinction. But I didn't. We do not arm ourselves. Period. Who said I only meant guns?

very few people are capable to use a gun for selfdefence in a stressed situation.. a 5 hour course where you get to hold a gun if you're lucky, will not prepare you for this, most likely; you'll hurt or kill somebody not involved at all. So.. IF you are to carry a weapon around, make it VERY mandatory that all that want to do this have to train.. regularly and realistic.. shooting at a piece of paper that doesen't move.. all relaxed and nice is about as realistic as breaking boards... ok? catch my drift? get my idea? :P

I laughed my ass off when I saw a report on 20/20 or something a while back when a lady walked into a bank and when she opened an account she was offered either a brand new shotgun, rifle or a short term membership to a shooting range. The lady looked like she had never even seen a gun up close in her entire life and here they are shoving a 12 gauge into her face. Guns are different from knives, sticks, and meat hooks in that anybody can use them. Few people have the nerve to go up and stab somebody but most people have no problem with shooting somebody from across the street and never having to look the guy in the eye. Besides 6 years olds have been able to fire off guns. They are probably a little bit more dangerous than the average handheld weapon and a little bit more care should be put into guns. I'm have no problem with them so long as they are being taken care of responsibly.

I did not mean that absolutely no one can use them but try to imagine a 6 year old stabbing an adult male. Its not as easy but give him a gun. Guns are easy to handle and can do a lot more damage from a safe distance never really putting the user in harm way. Again I am all for having guns but I just believe that a great deal more care must be put into them. People just go out and buy them without ever taking any kind of training or even know how to clean them for petey's sake. If you are knowledgable and responsible then by god go ahead and buy that 9mm you have always wanted but if not then stick to boards with nails in them.

First, I did not read all of the posts, just skimmed.
I think that if we did not have the right to bear arms, we definately would have less accidental shootings. We would not have less intended ones. I mean think about it. A criminal will get a gun. I f someone wants to do something, then they will do it.
I used to post from Paducah Kentucky. This was the home of one of the first school shootings. I do not speak these words lightly, due to personal stake in the event of the town. I believe in the right to bear arms.
If the guns were locked. The kid may have gone on a stabbing spree.
It is only an option to blame guns for their availabilty and the acceptance of their blame by society. If guns were never invented, we would be arguing about knife or stick rights.
The news would sound like this:
"There was another school clubbing today......A sophomore clubbed 15 kids over the head with a morning star and a mace.......8 dead due to massive head trauma, and 7 in intensive care......critical..............There is only one question.........why?"
It may sound silly now, but in context it would be normal. If all humans had three arms, it would not be considered weird. It is only weird, when it is not the norm.

See, this is the mentality that we face...

one just won't manage to club or knife 20-30 people
again it takes skill or efford to kill with them, a gun is a shurefired( no pun intended) thing for these people
as for illegal guns, these are around because so much legal guns were availlable to steal

Put me on the record for saying 1 child dying from an accidental shooting is more than I want to see.
This is just like all those morons that burn SUV's because they use more gas. Why don't they burn planes? How many of them do you think used a plane shortly after that? And they also used gas to start the fires, real geniuses.
We could be more like the Japanese. Their gangs will rush into companies & homes wielding bats and beat the piss out of everyone around the area, and of course it would be against the law for a shop owner to have any type of weapon to protect himself or him customers.

It's worth mentioning that before the invention of the gun, it was generally illegal to own swords. Illegal for the peasantry to own swords anyway, royalty/aristocracy and their guards could have anything they wanted.
This is also true today - guns are illegal to own in many countries around the world, but the people who make the laws are protected by armed guards anywhere they go.
Isn't it interesting listening to them tell us how guns are unsafe and can't protect anyone... from behind a screen of armed men?

Barbara Boxer, one of the biggest Libs against guns, has a concealed license for Cali. When people say they have the right to be armed to protect themself and you do not, they are saying that you life is not worth as much as theirs.
