  • Short fighters.

What are the best techniques to end a fight quickly when one is small and short?
My main problem is that I have short arms, and I miss alot....
People say.."use angles"....but the tall people are as quick as I am and face me as I try to use them and hold me off with their length...

And I live in an area with lots of big tall motherf***ers who think they're gangsters...
    Tired of being pushed around...

sorry if I posted in the wrong forum but it DID say "questions"...

I'm 6 ft 5 and 270 lbs. Why not just accept you're small, little man. That's why there are weight categories in boxing, mma, wrestling, judo whatever.

      Angles and footwork and...

Easier said than done I know. Angles/Footwork are key. Another is making them reach for you, they have a long reach and most of them are prone to over reach because it. Once they commit they are stuck for a brief moment.

Now you have to be quick enough to capitalize on that moment, but it's doable. Also big people have way to much to protect. Seems they can't defend their legs, torso and head effectively more often than not.

Size is just an attribute and it can be overcome just like any other attribute. But that doesn't mean it is easy. I'd tend to lean towards the speed advantage and skill level. If you don't have these you had better cultivate them.

      Get a BIG stick.

I've found leg techniques are good against BIG guys. My short legs are still longer than his arms... Stay outside until you kick him a few times. When he starts getting worried about low line attacks it will be easier to punch him in the face!

The last guy I had Kumite with was 6'6" 280lbs. Whatever you do don't let him get on top of you. You will be overwhelmed by his body weight. I'm 5'10" 205lbs.

          .

I'm sorry but that's bollocks. A big persons legs are going to be much stronger than a non big person's legs....it's not some kind of exploitable weakness having long powerful legs. You start kicking a big guy's legs, if he knows how to kick he'll kick yours back and destroy them. The other guy was right about angles and footwork though. A small irishman I trained with used to get in very close and hook and uppercut the crap out of me when I was a mere initiate, that worked really well for him.

Sorry for the hostility of my earlier comment, it's just as a big guy I get a lot of flack from small guys with little man syndrome, when I just want to be friends. Unless you're a criminal in which case I WILL FIND YOU.

The other half is in consideration of the relative skill of the opponents.

Actually I think of kicking as more of a distraction to close the gap...

and yeah... feel free to add me to your friends list.

I was thinking the same thing. Lower COG is better for grapplers. Add to it, that shorter fighters can make deadly infighters too - whereas longer fighters are better at blasting.

But there's no weight classes in the streets, big man.
Glad God has blessed you. Wasnt asking how big u were, tho.

Im trying to figure out how to kick your big ass without weapons.

So far i have...work on speed and angles to get inside. (eventho alotta these guys are as fast as me, just a lil bigger)
                      work on ju jistu skills.

                      ...anything else?

Learning to move around your opponent in a circular fashion also helps gain better angles.

If you're attacking from the side or back most of the time it's hard for other fighters to get a shot in on you.

You can work on musculature for a start. Head for the gym, eat well, get in shape etc... this will if nothing else help with your apparent self confidence problem.

I'm 5'5 160 lbs and work with people who are mostly from South Africa, 6'+ and 200lbs + yet I don't find myself being, or feeling pushed around. Maybe a confidence thing?

Violence is rarely a solution but in terms of self defense, weapons are more of an advantage than size and weight.

The most trouble I ever had in a single night of bar crawling was when a friend of mine (a body builder) joined me. Everyone with a point to prove wanted to fight him even though he's polite, friendly, not at all aggressive and hates fighting.

Gotta agree. All things being equal, the larger, stronger man will win.

The smaller fighter's advantage is usually due to better timing, experience and technique (either unconventional or exceptional power from such a small dude).
