Bush insists on Iraq-al Qaeda link

David E. Sanger, Robin Toner, New York Times

            Friday, June 18, 2004

"President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney insisted on Thursday that Saddam Hussein's deposed regime had a long history of ties to al Qaeda despite a report by the commission investigating the Sept. 11 attacks that found no "collaborative relationship" between Iraq and the terrorist network.

Bush, responding to a reporter's question about the report after a White House Cabinet meeting, said: "The reason I keep insisting that there was a relationship between Iraq and Saddam and al Qaeda" is "because there was a relationship between Iraq and al Qaeda."

            .............................................................................

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Bush on Thursday said that there were "numerous contacts" between Iraq and the terror network.

Bush, in a brief appearance before reporters, was asked why the administration insists that Saddam Hussein and al Qaeda had a relationship "when even you have denied any connection between Saddam and September 11, and now the September 11 commission says that there was no collaborative relationship at all?"

The president answered:"The reason I keep insisting that there was a relationship between Iraq and Saddam and al Qaeda, because there was a relationship between Iraq and al Qaeda."

Bush Defends Assertions of Iraq-Al Qaeda Relationship

            By Dana Milbank
            Washington Post Staff Writer

President Bush yesterday defended his assertions that there was a relationship between Saddam Hussein's Iraq and Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda, putting him at odds with this week's finding of the bipartisan Sept. 11 commission.

"The reason I keep insisting that there was a relationship between Iraq and Saddam and al Qaeda: because there was a relationship between Iraq and al Qaeda," Bush said after a Cabinet meeting. As evidence, he cited Iraqi intelligence officers' meeting with bin Laden in Sudan. "There's numerous contacts between the two," Bush said.

jubaji is being a child.."President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney insisted on Thursday that Saddam Hussein's deposed regime had a long history of ties to al Qaeda despite a report by the commission investigating the Sept. 11 attacks that found no "collaborative relationship" between Iraq and the terrorist network"

If the commision refuted white house allegations...then its clear the commission felt the white house tried to claim a link...sure they made vague statements that could mean several things...that what politicians do. The intended idea was to trick americans into believing the link...check the links i provided...up to 40% of the american public thought there were ties...now where did they get that idea??

DUDE i never said it did...i said we got alot a bush-lip claiming otherwise...i stand by that statement. When a politician gives you an impression (and they did) that al qaeda was in cahoots with saddam it strengthened bushs hand for going into IRAQ, he was padding the bill. Any reasonable person will concede bush played off of 911 to build support for invading iraq...
