Afghan-born Khalilzad was chosen by Condoleeza Rice as a replacement for Bolton, the original Bush appointed U.N. representative. He speaks several languages and has served as a counselor to Rumsfeldt, U.S. ambassador to Afghanistan, U.S. ambassador to Iraq and on Bush's National Security Counsel.

U.S.A. is leading the way in the diversity front.

The U.N. says they are looking forward to working with Khalilzad as they believe his style is more suited for the global community. I don't know much about his accomplishments or ability to fulfill the role, but it should be interesting.

My only question: Can he function as U.N. ambassador without a moustache as cool as John Bolton's?

Not as cool as a handle-bar moustache would be, but certainly cool in its own right.

I'm reading up a little more on Khalilzad's goals as the new rep. Bush has asked him to work with the UN on re-building Iraq. More details to come.
