      Right, which is a book of ideals. I can't recall off the top of my head having seen it in any first-hand accounts of Samurai having done so. I reckon some did, but I'd bet it was more of an ideal than a practice.

                  Honestly I don't know that much about Japanese history. I've read John Allyn's version of the 47 Ronin but other than that I'm not familiar with much before WWII. Can you recommend any texts/links/films? I'm a geek about history
