  • M.A.C.H. holds

I am an ex-correction officer who worked in a state prison and we had to learn some basic training for self defense. Who here knows/learned the Mechanical Advantage Control Holds (also known as M.A.C.H.)? If you know them do you think they really work or is it a bunch of B.S. that's going to get you killed if you try to apply them to someone? Just curious what you guys/gals think.

    Not I...

My grand father was in corrections years ago. I think he was more prepared for violence than many LEOs these days but folks who won medals in WW2 are dying off by the thousands now.

I'm ex LEO/MIL/Prisons and also did a little bouncing. I've had one or two scraps in my my time and I've been exposed to MACH along with 50 or so other DT's courses, but I haven't completed MACH certification.

MACH looks nice in the promo clip. It has some nice theory.

From my perspective it also has a major tactical flaw in the use of the overhook - which exposes everything on your belt to the offender. The lock flows - unless the are initiated by a resisting opponent and trained in an alive environment - just don't cut it in the real world. You can't train figure four armlock takedowns etc on resisting opponents due to almost certain injuries, so if it can't be trained in an alive manner it's unlikely to be pulled off on the street.

My vote is firmly in favour against MACH as there are better systems out there.

You know, I didn't think of that but your right. It does.
