Just a couple of clips from the guys at ISR Matrix. I've trained in this stuff and it's the real deal.

I promise I'm not trying to be a dick...but how is this so different from any other JKDC guy's stuff. I mean, it looks pretty conventional, straight forward, and pretty much common for that particular background (not "closed door" as somebody put on your video). I mean...I think JKDC blends to probably be the best of the best, but nothing I've seen so far is so special or unique. Sorry.

Firstly, the ISR guys aren't claiming to have invented any of the techniques shown in the promo clips. How can ANYONE claim to have invented a human movement. Arm drags, underhooks and so on all depicted in cave drawings! The techniques in ISR have been selected because they are functional. ISR give full credit to their influences in greco and muay thai. The ISR founders had a background in Functional JKD under Matt Thorntons Straight Blast Gym, in addition to various other grappling styles. Styles that worked 2000 years ago and work on the streets and between competitive athletes today. Why develop something that isn't functional just for the sake of being different?

As to HOW it's different to JKDC.... Based on my observations and little training in JKD, I've always associated JKD with being mostly a striking art. Sure there's been some grappling influence, but rightly or wrongly, I always pictured grappling within JKD in so far as integration with striking and working for a better striking position.

ISR differs from martial arts in that ISR's trained course of action remains in tune with the police officers legal and moral obligations. For example, striking, although it exists within the ISR system, is not a mainstay of the subject control package. Likewise there are no techniques in the subject control module that are likely to cause injuries operationally or in training. No wrist locks, no eye pokes, no throat chops and so on. Also - there's no parries or blocks within the core ISR material. Instead, the ISR primary interception technique will cover vitals when crashing in to control an offender.

ISR addresses team tactics, weapon retention, restraining, arresting and cuffing. Utilising a techniqe that may exist in JKDC (which also exists in greco, judo, sambo etc etc) to assist in that process doesn't make {insert martial art of choice} a law enforcment arrest and control system. ISR is a martial art for LE by LE that is LE.

ISR has a remarkable coaching methodology. The ISR Matrix founder is a former grappling association coach of the year and has trained successful competition teams for many years. ISR courses produce functional exponents in hours rather than years. This cannot be captured in a short youtube promo clip. The functionality in the fluid transitions isn't shown either.

There's something in ISR for everyone. Whether they are after a functional skillset, a control and restraint system, a self-defence system, a proven coaching methodology or the opportunity to test themselves under pressure, ISR offers all that and more.

In relation to the "closed door" comment.... that comment referred to the material that is taught to the Anti-Terrorism team as being off limits to the public for several years. Approval was recently granted by DOD to release a promotional clip featuring SOME of the clinch with cloth applications and demonstrations. The comment wasn't suggesting that ISR invented a judo throw for example.

People from most backgrounds will see something familiar in the ISR techniques, but the ISR is much more than a handful of techniques. The manner in which it is put together and trained and the manner in which it address the needs of its target market, all while producing competent functional operators within hours is quite refreshing and some would say unique.

Candid, if you've got a background in JKDC and are somewhat bored with it (conventional, straight forward, common, not special or unique?), I'd recommend taking at look at an ISR course. It's a new way of looking at a complex problem, they are a great bunch of guys, outstanding MA coaches and also highly respected professional trainers in the LE and Military fields. ISR has various testiominals from MMA coaches and BJJ blackbelts about how the ISR has changed their game and changed the way they teach for the better - they can't all be wrong.
